The evening of July 4th means fireworks in the USA, especially in the middle and lower income areas of Los Angeles.  These fireworks are illegal to store, manufacture, sell, use or handle, but that doesn't stop many thousands of people from obtaining them and setting them off.  Voigtlander Z 35/2, Z6II, Adobe Denoise.

It's one of the smaller 'batrachid' aquatic buttercups, probably Ranunculus circinatus or R. trichophyllus.

A bad day today :( First, I was detained and interrogated by Lithuanian secret police for nearly an hour. Apparently because in today's search for the free-floating aquatic plant, Water Violet Hottonia palustris, I had by misfortune got too close to the perimeter of a huge power station. With a war raging in Europe that's not the best thing to do. The guys had the typical dead-pan look and attitude, and of course had well-worn guns slung by their side. Also they did not understand a word of English. I have spent better hours than this one, for sure :)

Later the same day, on another potential site for the Water Violet, I tripped and fell into a thicket of thorny brambles. Now my legs sting and bleed like hell.

No Water Violets were found here either, so my search returned nothing. I have had better days. Oh well.

Freedom is always on the other side.
