The use of a long lens created a special 'look' much favoured for a time. One might say it was 'fashionable'.

I had this lens as a loaner from the national Nikon dealer in the '70s and it was hard to get as production ws low and the lens much in demand. Plus at that time, as a budding scientist, I couldn't afford it :( Thuds reluctantly I had to let it go. Many years later I acquired a very nice sample of the Ai'd K-type.
That learns it was very popular at that time.  Was the 300/4.5 ED non-if also in strong demand in those days ?

Those 28mm can make stunning portraits at times. Especially with characterful noses. What was your aperture setting?

If that was the case, I missed it. Only remember the 300 didn't have an IR focusing dot unlike other Nikkors.

With the corrected perspective and traditional elements in the frame, the entire image carries an atmosphere of the one from 1910s.

Very nice result Paco. Superior portrait with the 28mm   I feel the 28mm/1.4E performs better on the D850 than on the Z.

Quite the lens, centre sharpness is beyond reproach!

As the Rodenstock TV-Heligon is an 'X-ray' (sic) lens (it's not of course, only used for recording the X-ray output), it should be able to see straight through persons? Tested on one of my transgender friends and perhaps there is a grain of truth here as well? In a twisted manner, though :)

Thank you all for the nice comments. The lens is here at full 1.4 aperture. This is the way I like to use it for people. Indeed special enviromental portraits can be had with this lens. Here, the man in his office. Meet Jose
