You have Olga doing something relatively mundane and yet it compels the eye. The shallow depth of field really focuses attention on her.

Another thing that intrigues me is your processing. Your black-and-white seems to have decent contrast and yet avoids much, if any white. How do you do it?

  There is no trick with the bw conversion. It starts with one of my usual presets and then some (very) little tweaking. What you see here is the combination of the street in shadow and her in the light. The clouds were covering the sun changing constantly from strong contrast to diffuse light. This is somewhere in between of the extremes. Notice the subtle shadow of her in the tarmac

  This pops Fons. Love the warm colors and your choice of big building with details and context around. Establishing the main object with impact and giving space to wander the image....

  I'm a fan of that gear combo too  ;)

It seems  modern nikkors like the 28/1.4 gives an old contender as the D3s a second life colours are so good
