You shouldn't pay taxes or duties if you send them as personal effects.

I moved from Las Vegas to Spain and making a declaration and a list of personal items made the trick. It was not easy thou, Spanish customs acan be specially greedy. Being essentially used gear should work.

  Good luck

No need to fly under the radar - they are legitimate personal belongings to do with your hobby - just declare them as such.

Wow, that’s a big move - but considering the working environment of Japanese companies it is VERY understandable!

Canada will not be the Aladdin’s Cave for old Nikon gear that Tokyo is, but I hope you find a way to continue your good work ;-)

It has been a couple of decades since I moved to Canada but I don’t remember paying any duty on my personal goods. Nor have I paid duty on used items that I bought from abroad and had shipped here.

This is the official position:

When I migrated to Canada, everything came in free as Settler's Effects, and that would have included my 1947 MG TC, had I brought it. However, that was 1967. Canada is very fair.

How about paying for extra luggage pieces and getting some help in moving them to and from the airports?
