So yet another "50 mm lens". Too much overemphasized "standard" imho.

Sure, but the Voigtlanders come with a CPU for proper EXIF, aperture, focus distance communication and can trigger the focus assist automatically when desired.

The 40/1.2 full frame lens has a decent following in the Sony camp as it combines the perfect balans of the fast aperture, fantastic boke, sharpness, small size and smooth controls of an old skool lens combined with all the mentioned benefits of a modern lens.

There are plenty manual focus lenses out there like Laowa 35mm 0.95 but I am kind of done with lenses without a CPU.

I find it very weird to introduce an APS-C lens  as the first lens on the Z mount.

The fact that Voigtlander showcases the new lens on the Zfc is a pretty big clue why as there’s no denying that this is a very good looking combo

Other lenses will probably follow soon now that they’ve figured out the Zee CPU.

The looks are to kill for (figuratively, of course). I must get that one for my Z fc.

It is interesting that more and more companies now launch new lenses for the Z format with the electronics to match. I never liked the return to the dark ages of uncoupled, non-automatic,  non-communication lenses with adapters  the mirrorless era brought with it.

On Cosina's webpage it states that the lens has been made with Nikon's blessing.
"*This product is developed and manufactured under a license agreement with Nikon Corporation."
I read it as Nikon is disclosing (some of) the lens/body protocol.

Good catch Sten and very food news that Nikon is now officially opening up the mount

Cosina also heavily emphasized the need for a firmware upgrade on the camera side so the license agreement might involve more than just the use of the CPU chip, maybe it also includes in body lens corrections and such things.

It's not unlikely Nikon 'ordered' an APS-C  lens first

The BW samples they have at the Cosina web page......they are not that interesting?
Photo_02 is OK.....but do you think the bokeh is very pleasant?
To me it looks a bit "strange".....and why nothing in color?

They are not in hi-res either so sharpness at 1.2 can be evaluated. But is probably ok thinking of the other Cosina lenses.....

Nowadays if I want to see samples I check Instagram. In this case search with tag #nokton35mmf12xmount (the Fuji X version is optically identical to the Nikon Z version)
