The biker chicks don't seem to mind the plastic mount at all.

In my country, we are rapidly closing in on the crucial point where all new cars sold must be non-fossil. The deadline is set to 2025. This means our petrol ('gas') stations are drawing to a close, or at least completely change their operations, in our life time.

I was reminded of the ongoing and rapidly accelerating evolution last night when Ruth and I pulled in to a filling station to join the queue for charging of electric cars. Lots of chargers present, but all were occupied. The pumping area was deserted.

Last fossil standing, or, Will the last customer please shut off the lights.

I think the move to electric will be temporary - once the problems of handling liquid hydrogen are overcome and fuel cell technology developed, we will see hydrogen fuelled cars etc. Not only will filling up be faster but the power generated by wind an solar can be stored in the shape of hydrogen when there is low demand on the grid.

Such a difference compared with Canada. At least this corner of it. There are a few Tesla charging stations at big malls but that is about it.

Am I the only one who will miss the sound of vintage, big, rumbly V8 engines?

About 70% of new cars sold here are now electic.

And likely, big noisy and fuel-thirsty cars would not be missed by most people.

I don't really miss the sound of the combustion engine, but I fear that it would be difficult to notice a car approaching from behind or around the corner.
