Nice, I've read in the specs that you need at least 256GB storage to use the 4K ProRes 30fps video recording so with 512 you are golden in when you are using it for film

Thanks Jack. Interesting. I see the difference, not as much as I might have thought, but I will have to experiment. I ordered the iPhone 13 Pro Max with 1 TB of memory as I hope to do some short videos with it, maybe some ProRes.

I have my iPhone 13 Pro Max and a chance to experiment with the raw DMG files. They in fact are just like any DNG, quite flexible and able to be pushed an pulled in the directions we would like. I will be using that over the .JPG, for sure.

Driving up into the Leelanau Peninsula of northern Michigan, looking at possible places to move, while waiting for an appointment, we followed a winding road until it stopped with this look at Lake Michigan, high above the shore. Here is a quick shot using the iPhone 13 Pro Max and the raw DNG option. This clearly shows me the use of raw on these new phones is very worthwhile. No, it's not perfect, but I can see the advantage of shooting raw with these little cameras.

Michael, how did you process the DNG file?  Did you apply the unsharp mask heavily?  I observe strong halo around the foliage.

No, I may have used 'smart sharpen," but that's it. This kind of shot is for web. I see more flexibility compared to .JPG.

Thank you for the technical detail.  I was quite impressed by the quality of the RAW files even on the 1st gen. iPhone SE that I used.  But the JPEG files yielded from the current smartphones are generally quite impressive, and it can be more and more challenging to beat them by processing RAW files.

I have the iPhone SE II, and am generally pleased with the images it produces. My biggest complaint is landscape pictures often render skies too dark/blue away from the horizon line. It is too obvious to me, and looks unnatural like a poor HDR attempt.

Currently, I have SE II as well.  The camera appears to apply HDR automatically in the contrasty situation.  The image looks over-processed, but that's how all smartphone camears works.
