Today a flip out LCD is a requirement. The vast majority of professional photographers will not have a problem with them.

When a photographer must carry two cameras on their neck at one time accidents will happen. If at all possible only one camera should be carried.

Then again some photographers are needlessly careless, even abusive. I saw an LA Times news paper photographer push open the door to Authorized Camera Service in Woodland Hills, CA with a 400/5.6 IF-ED AIS lens. Yes! He used the lens to push open the door! Willie the owner asked if I saw and said this photographer came in with broken equipment frequently.

Canon R3, allegedly used during the Olympic games as well, has a flip-put screen.  It is an interestingly contrasting difference between the flagship cameras developed with the same use cases in mind.

If the LCD didn't flip out it would be stronger. It could still get mashed but the hinge mechanism wouldn't be there to be damaged.

A major advantage for a flip out screen is low angle and Hail Marry shots. With the Nikon F photographers would take off the prims and shoot with the camera over their heads.

I think pro who must carry two cameras with two different lenses have to accept the risk. Taking the flip out LCD would be a major imposition for many, many photographers. Removing the LCD entirely would be a huge deal breaker for a majority of potential buyers.

Now what about a reversible LCD monitor that was strong on the back side? Maybe yes, maybe no.

The Zfc has a reversible LCD. Probably the flagship is equal in this respect.

I think the Sony A1 and the Z9 are the competitors as the rumors about the R3 are its resolution is "only" 24Mpx.

It also needs to compete with Sony A9II and Canon R5, in practice, since Nikon do not have direct competitors to those models (in mirrorless). And there is rumors about a cinema-optimized version of the R5, which also would be a competitor of a sorts.

I guess Canon is more concentrating on the improvements of the uncropped 4k video performance and reduce the jello artifact.  R3 should work well in tandem with C70.

It seems as if Nikon is rumbling on with respect of the Z9.
