A pity you lost it because that hood is very versatile and can serve on other lenses as well, including the Coastal Optics 60/4 APO, UV-Nikkor 105/4.5, and the 45/2.8 Ai-P Nikkor.

The HN-35 (for 45/2.8 ) will work, but is very elusive and/or expensive. You can easily make a nice hood yourself, though, by combining a K-4 ring with a 52 > 3940.5 or similar step-down ring. If necessary, add a reversing ring 52-52 mm to get the thread genders lined up correctly. When the pieces come together and match, seal the joins with a few drops of epoxy glue.

The simplest and cheapest solution is just using a K-5 directly.

That's what I do as well - it works well for me.  I have the original hood, but I prefer not to lose it . . .

EDIT - Actually, now that I pulled the lens out, I use the HS-9 hood - big fan of these old snap-in (and reversible!) Nikon lens hoods.  This hood reverses snugly over the lens and is very compact in the bag.  Sure the hood might be a bit wide for 90mm, but it works way better than nothing at all.

Has the SL I  a different filter thread?  The SL II has a 52mm.
The SL I has a 49mm filter thread instead - same as the SL I 75/2.5 and 180/4.

As was mentioned already, a good hood option for the 90/3.5 SL II is the K5 ring (from the K ring extension tube set) The K5 is 20mm long, so will provide a useful amount of protection and shade to the front lens. It has 52mm filter threads at both ends so it can screw directly onto the lens, and accept a regular 52mm lens cap at the other end. Since it does not flare out it is relatively compact, so you could keep it on more or less permanently. You could even try adding the K4 ring (10mm) on as well, giving a 30mm deep hood, although I suspect this will cause vignetting on FX cameras.

Another use of the K-ring set. What a wonderful item Nikon made!

K-rings are the Nikon equivalent to 'Lego' bricks.

I probably have used over 25 complete sets over the years. At present I have a scarcity of these parts thus more sets are on the shopping list.

A very nice aspect of the K-ring sets is that they were made for the 'keen amateur' of their days, thus one usually obtains a pristine kit in a leatherette case.

Found! I just found the "lost" hood. Where? You do not believe it! Inside my K1-ring! (where it fitted 100%)

Hey folks, glad to see this forum is still going. I'd exited when there was a transitionary period away from Nikon DSLR's.

I'm resurrecting this thread with a semi-related inquiry. I think my 90/3.5 diopter was in a bag that was stolen.  From what I can find, I believe it was a +3 diopter.  I was always happy with its performance.  Has anyone tried swapping out a D250 or D500 diopter?  Unlike the Voigtlander, these are easy to find, but I don't want to throw good money at a stopgap solution if I'm unlikely to be happy with the results.

I think the CV close-up lens was just a two-element achromat, so in principle alternatives like Nikon's 3T/4T or the Canon equivalents ought to work fine.

(I do have the original tiny closeup lens, remarkably enough. Bigger items have gone AWOL than this. For example, a Noct-Nikkor :))

Thank you, I was unaware of the Nikon diopters, it looks like the 4T at +2.9 will get me very close to the +3 Voigtlander.  I'll just need to see how it acts mounted under the hood, as I'd like to avoid needing to use K rings.

It has 52mm threads.

K-rings are not necessary to avoid, they can be very usefu. Like Lego bricks for photographers  :)

I have the 90mm SL-II (ex Michael Erlewine), it's an excellent lens. I don't have the dedicated hood or closeup filter but I rarely felt the need for these. I use a K5 ring as a hood and the lens focuses very close by itself so it is rare that I need to get closer - I have other macro lenses for that.

If I wanted to get closer I would either use a closeup lens (I have the Nikon 4T) or an extension tube. The Nikon 4T might not be as as perfectly matched as the dedicated Voigtlander diopter but I expect it would do a good job. You could experiment by attaching the 4T directly to the lens or adding a small spacer (eg an empty filter ring) in the same way the Voigtlander diopter was designed to attach on top of the dedicated hood. A disadvantage of closeup lenses is that they reduce the working distance.

Being a relatively slow short telephoto prime that works well at medium-close range, I wouldn't be surprised if the lens works well on extension tubes, rather like the Nikon 105/4 micro. A PK-14 tube (14mm long) would provide a nice extension to the lens focus range and get to nearly 1:2 magnification. This option would give better working distance than the 4T filter, but is less convenient to attach. Some lenses don't work so well on extension - you would have to try and see what works best.
