Hard to keep track of your gear choices Sten ;D

What made you decide to give Fuji a third try, why the T10 and not the x pro2?

Is it Nikon + Fujifilm now?

Fujifilm with "analogue" controls is probably by far the mirrorless option that's closest to Nikon in operation right now.

Sten, can you say anything about Fujinon vs Nikkor lenses? What are the similarities or differences in colour and rendering?

I kno...but it's fun!
I had a D750 which never seemed to work correctly. Been to the Nikon repair facilities twice and still no cigar so I gave up and thought three time's a charm. Am thrilled over the little T10. The Pro2 is too expensive. And now I have two 16mp cameras (df and T10). With an adapter I can use all Nikons on the T10.

As a recent convert to a Fuji X-T1, and now various Fujinon lenses having PXed my big heavy Nikon glass. I am full of admiration for the Fuji glass albeit with very limited experience so sadly I'm not in a position to compare the two brands!

As a subjective opinion the Fuji lenses to my non expert eyes have a more pleasing rendition of colours!

My fuji experience is just beginning, needless to say there is lots to learn!

Sten, I would be interested in which lens adapter you are using?

Oh. Sten. Keep both in different cupboards. So you can switch any time...

I have had Fuji(w/ 2 lenses) for over 2.5 years, and Nikon forever, but I could not give an impression of the color rendition between the two brands of lenses because the color[and general tonal] rendition of the two different sensor types is so different.

Having been straying from Nikon DX to Olympus to Panasonic to the current Nikon FX within the past several months, I can share your fun.   :o :o :o

My D750 is the first Nikon body in some years that worked flawlessly and (finally) with the reliable AF.  I've never got around to Fuji although I've taken various bodies on my hands at the stores, but hope you enjoy your new purchase!

I had that in the beginning, then worked through Andrea's and Bjørn's Photo Ninja Tutorial.

After Calibration and workflow adaptation I had my consistent colors as planned.

So if you see series of me currently, you will see D600, D3 and X100T all mixed up and you can only guess by the rendering characteristics of the lenses I use which is wich.

So Sten, what is next?
Hope you enjoy you new camera. Any good pictures to show yet?
I am also living with Fuji + adapted Nikkors, mostly, and thoroughly enjoying it.

Olivier, may I ask which lens adapted you are using?

Hi Mike, I am actually using all my Nikon lenses.
In that order approximately, from the most the the least used one:
105mm f/2.5 AIS
AF-D 50mm f/1.4 (of course in manual focus)
75-150mm f/3.5 Series E
Fisheye 16mm f/2.8 AI
28mm f/2 AI
Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro lens, a great lens that I should try more often especially since it is very easy to MF.
All with or without a Lens Turbo II focal reducer (especially the 105mm).
I also have a Helios 44-2 (58mm f/2), a fun lens wich can render surprising oof backgrounds...

For general use, the Fujinon 18-55mm is very satisfactory.
I will most likely add a Samyang 12mm f/2 in Fuji mount for astrophotography this summer in the mountains.

It is...and it will stay like that. Cannot comment on differences in color and rendering yet. Will try and compare this when time allows.
Meanwhile, here are my two to-go cameras:

I got my 35/1.4 today and the trio 14/2.8, 56/1.2 and 90/2 would make me smile. Pics will arrive as soon as I get out and about. Yep, nice combo it is - the F&N.

While F&N literally makes sense in this context it has a different notation as well:  F abrique N ationale is a weapon manufacturer.

F N is (in Norwegian) United Nations.

Much more appropriate when Sten builds relationships to different brands concurrently.

Olivier my apologies a typo made me type adapted when I actually meant "adapter" to enable you to use your Nikon lenses on a Fuji body?

Sten, thanks for the info!

If the 12/2 shares the low coma qualities of the 14/2.8 it will rock for astrophotography :)

Looking at some reviews of the 12/2 there is some CA whereas them comawings are quite absent. The former is an easy PP fix so it ought to be similat to its 14/2.8 sibling.
Title: Re: I AM Fuji

the 12/2 has stellar (pun maybe intended) reviews for astrophotography indeed.

Mike: I use either a Lens Turbo II focal reducer or a empty chinese adapter purchased on Ebay for 10€ and which does its intended job.

"I fully understand Sten" he said while rubbing his hands in excitement  ;D

Anyhow, congrats with the Fuji, when handling them I was hugely impressed by the built, button layout and of course those metal lenses.

Got to say that I am similarly invested in both Nikon and Fuji.
I am awaiting the arrival of my D500.  I cant/wont afford the D5 for my shooting as the D800 works better for me.
I really look forward to my D400....D500. :-)

Well Sten, three times lucky ("drie maal is scheepsrecht" as we say in Dutch). Maybe this time it will stick...  ::)

In the meantime my X-T1 is already two years here, and it is still doing well as a small camera addition to the Nikons. A long walk, a bike trip, a few days on hand luggage to the Far East and the Fuji is the preferred choice and much better than no camera with me. But for everything else the Nikons. I don't have and will not have a Nikkor to Fuji adapter, that is heresy  8)

Pros

- Small/light camera and small/light lenses for APS-C format
- the lenses aren't bad at all, to the contrary
- no lousy popup flash on the X-T1
- good build quality
- treat the X-Trans files well (e.g. PhotoNinja, not ACR/Lightroom) and nice results can be obtained

Cons

- Battery life
- Battery life
- The sometimes flickering / stuttering EVF that is too dim in bright sunlight
- The missing true AF-ON button and AF-S lens functionality
- The Focus by Wire manual focussing

My X-T1 is also 2 years old. I ventured for the primes when I took the plunge and bought the XF14mm f2.8, XF23mm f1.4, XF56mm f1.2 and the XF55-200. Looking back, I bought the camera sight unseen, and am mostly happy but have since purged the primes and replaced them with the XF16-55 f2.8 WR.

My go to cameras are still Nikon, my light travel kit is the X-T1 and the two zooms. If Nikon had gotten serious about mirrorless with a decent sized sensor, I would have passed on the Fuji.

My comments:
- small, not that light with the big 16-55 f2.8 lens but lighter than my D810 with the 24-70 f2.8.
- lens quality is very good.
- battery life sucks and the indicator goes from alive to dead in a blink of an eye.
- although I am okay with the button layout, I'd give Fuji a FAIL on implementation, very recessed buttons, too mushy, virtually no tactile click.
- I like the retro dials but again a FAIL on implementation, the Drive and meter dials move too freely under use.
- Q Menu is a disaster, after making a custom setting, the parameters are not remembered by the display once the camera is turned off and on again.

I will keep it but the honeymoon is over, it works, is capable but not IMO a Pro grade system.

... is capable but not IMO a Pro grade system.
This is also my conclusion, for now.  A pro, or someone with pro-level skills, can make it work and get good results, but there are too many inconveniences compared to the mature SLR systems.

I've seen many excellent captures done with the Fuji, thus the system as such has promises. But after a few trials I tend to agree with others here.

I'm certain Sten will make great photos whatever camera happens to be in his hands at any time. Perhaps it's time to ponder the ramifications of that fact?

I love my Nikon Df, put exotic lenses on my 1 Nikon V1, go wet with the 1 AW nikon, anticipate the arrival of the D500, I try to come to grips with my Sony A7, shoot UV video with my Panasonic GH-2, and I just ordered a Fuji S5Pro (for emulated Infrared Ektachrome output). Thus diversity is the nature of things these days.

I've got both lenses and love them both.
Yes coma is good in the 12, better than all other fast lenses I have.
In normal life operating the 14/2.8 is easier though.

I will bring both to Scotland in May so whoever uses Fuji and is interested will be able to try them.

Olivier,

I have not tried a focal length reducer - only have glassless adapters - but I am considering getting one, so that my remaining MF Nikkors will work more closely to the FOV and DOF they have on 35mm format.
The metabones seems to be the best optically - but is its very high price justified versus the Zongyi/Kipon/etc competitors?
Is there anything you can share on this, preferably first hand experience?
