Hope you did not have any serious incident with your deer!
Thank you. I have learned to slow right down when I see them by the side of the road. They will watch you approach and then jump in front of you at the last moment. Usually, I see one every few months. This week there were six! These are white-tailed deer.
For those unfamiliar with the problem, moose (elk in Europe) are taller and heavier. Hit a white-tail and your car's front end will absorb the impact. Hit a moose and your car's front will hit its legs, leaving 1000 pounds of moose to come right at your windscreen.

She is priceless.
isn't she ? the scene was spotted by my wife. I just had to follow orders and shoot. The historical centre of Palermo is in a poor condition. Bombings in 1943 ? nope. Earthquakes ? nope, this is not Messina. Very near the well-preserved cathedral, there are some ruins (only walls remaining), other buildings are prevented from falling down by scaffoldings, themselves in a dubious condition. Crossing the street in front of the main station is Sicilian roulette: the city has no money for traffic lights or even zebra crossings. But despite the bad condition, it is a lively city with lots of remarkable places.

This morning I had some unexpected free time as my dentist appointment was cancelled at short notice. I availed myself of the opportunity to search for my Noct Nikkors 58/1.2 and eventually managed to locate one of them. The other, which Erik famously CPU-modified, is gone AWOL. It might even be stolen. Oh well, as long as there is one left I'm OK. ???
Anyway, what might a Noct-Nikkor deliver if abused severely by putting a lot of extension to it? Not optimal in terms of sharpness and freedom of optical aberrations of course, but still the lens can just deliver passable images. Anyway more fun to use than the 105/2.8 Nikkor Z MC that I later used as a control.
Taken with the 58/1.2 Noct + 35mm extension on my Zf. At f/1.2 nominal.

In general. I'd agree. Just experienced that phenomenon yesterday when my reserve charger for my travel laptop had vanished into thin air. I ordered a replacement and then, a few hours later, the 'thin air' solidified and the missing charger manifested itself again. Not a big deal in terms of money, unlike purchasing a third Noct-Nikkor to relocate the second one. Plus, it might well be stolen by a 'friend' who turned out not to be a friend. He used it and other things disappeared at that time as well.

Is this an ex-whaling area Tim?
Colin, it turns out that there was once a whaling industry in Durban, a fact that I was unaware of.
Here is an interesting article that I found: https://www.fad.co.za/Resources/whaling/whaling.htm
From what I can gather, the pier was initially designed to have a nautical theme, but not necessarily meant to represent whale bones.
However, it has become known as the whalebone pier, and at the recent renovation at the end of 2023, two whale-tail seats were installed at the entrance, to reinforce this theme.
The main purpose of the pier is to disguise the two large storm-water pipes under the deck.

A little beauty; Amersfoort (Eem-voorde my interpretation).

Some years ago I bought a mystery Nikkor from Akira. No specifications were found on the lens, but after some research I consider this to be one of the technical lenses used by the Nikon repair techs to test for infinity focus in a collimator. The lens is set in a solid metal casing and has no aperture control or focusing helicoid. It does indeed focus precisely to infinity on my Df.
Enter the Z generation of Nikons and by adding a focusing helicoid to the lens, it can focus to 1:1 if required. The design is clearly intended for infinity focus so image quality starts to suffer in the closer range, as expected. I can also coax it into being operative on my IR cameras, an example of which is presented below.
-
A little beauty; Amersfoort (Eem-voorde my interpretation).
That's correct Fons. Amer is the historic name of the river Eem. Voorde is a crossing.

One of my recurring subjects -- a badly cut silver birch on a forest clearing. Done it so many times with different results every time.
Here an IR interpretation with my newly acquired AFS Zoom-Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 ED D which I puchased after having used Paco's AF D on my recent Spanish meet-up with him. The later lens is very good for IR, but alas won't focus by AF on my Z5 or Z6 modified cameras. That makes using it a little awkward thus I had hoped the AFS version would keep the good IR rendition and offer decent AF. It does to a large extent, however unlike the previous 'D' version, therre is some vignetting in IR. Not that bothersome and I probably can live with this small drawback.

I like the bluish color and 3-D rendition perfect for this bleak winter scene.
It is surprising to know that the AF-D 80-200 f2.8 zoom for FX format vignettes such noticeably even on this frame apparently with its both sides trimmed.
-
I'm surprised as well. This was wide-open at f/2.8. The frame is trimmed on either side, as you surmised.
Do note this is the AFS, not AF D, version. Paco had the latter and it behaved differently.
-

A much prettier spring morning. Clear sky, fresh snow and -10°C......
Nikon Zf, 24mm f/2.8 AI.
-
I had seen the pattern on several ponds in the area. Thanks for telling me the cause!
Methane is the common end result from decomposition of organic matter in water, when oxygen levels go low in winter. Depending on the surface ice qualities and thickness, the methane is either trapped as bubble(s) in the ice, or burst through like a small explosion; in the latter case making the characteristic pattern of rays branching out from a centre. Like this example shown below.
Always walk carefully on, or better avoid, ice showing signs of methane production as the ice might break -- I can attest to this happens easily and the experience is chilling :)

AF usually works also for IR; however focusing speed can get slower. Full focusing accuracy can never be guaranteed unless the combination of camera + lens + filter [+ light situation] has been tested a priori.

Since I had a functional battery for the old Nikon D1X, why not try to revive my oldest DSLR, a D1 from late 1999. That camera was amongst the first 4-5 bodies shipped to Norway towards the end of 1999 and I got one of them -- later, it has been superceded by more Nikon models of course, but still is kind of special to me. I later modified it to "full-spectrum" by simply removing the filter pack over the sensor. Since I didn't replace the filter pack focus is off, and with a camera lacking Live View feature, focusing for UV and Ir tended to be a hit or miss. I shot mainly IR with wide-angle lenses such as the 20 /3.5, 20/4, 28/3.5, or similar, and quickly learned how to set approximate focus and estimate what field of view they captured. Actually a quite deliberating experience :)
As said, I revived it with the fresh battery, and put the old workhorse UV-Nikkor 105mm f/4.5 on it. I had no tripod nearby, so had to shoot hand-held, which worked quite OK for visible light captures, not so well for UV since UV this bleak day required 1sec. or longer exposures. Anyway, I show just the visible light recored here. Not bad for a 25-year old digital camera with unknown focus offset?

Only by example.
The actual scene is pretty much mundane, in fact. However, what we capture in a photo and what we see might not always be identical. It is up to the photographer.

That was the only thing I could tell. I thought you handhold the first half of the long exposure and swung the camera upwards. But that should be difficult to hold the camera still enough to keep the bottom part of the frame (shot during the first half of the exposure) sharp. :o

As spring approaches, the winter forests around me awake to become more dangerous.
for me it looks like a pile of logs in long exposure. Opposing light and generous use of a zoom lens, so that it is a double exposure in a single frame.

Just a single click, with the 105MC lens (which has no zooming capability). Hand-held exposure around 1/250 sec. The general tendency is to overcomplicate simple things.
Anyone could have got the same shot.

A micro 105? That makes things complicated, unlike your advice. How can this perspective distortion came from a mid-tele lens? Did you just shoot an image reflected on a warped surface?
