Although I don't know anything about her background, this "Afghan Girl" looks much happier.

It is good that this girl is in a friendly country such as Norway. I worry about the future of Afganistan and the people still there.
I love the colourful dandelions - especially as we are now in winter "down" here.

Recently I acted as a consultant for a film team working to document the efficiacy of sun lotions. The main actress wasn't entirely convinced her sun lotion had any effect, so asked her to apply some while my modified full-spectrum Z6 recorded this in video. A frame grab from the HD footage convinced her :)

That time of the year has arrived - lots of close-ups of weird, inconspicuous plants in, on, or under water. Brings in good money, though, wish there was less work involved ...-.
This is Callitriche cophocarpa, aptly named Long-styled Water-wort. The tiny female flowers have excessively long styles, up to 5mm long, jutting out of the water. Pollination is in air wich demands some delicate juggling with placement of its sexual organs, but the plant does its best to achieve the desired outcome.
Taken with Nikon Z7 and the Laowa 25mm f/2. 8, which is my to-go lens for magnificatlons up to 5X. Shooting through the actual surface film demands very careful lighting of the scene so as to avoid reflectiions. The plants wilt quickly even when placed in water, so I had to shot a shorter stack (71 frames) than the optimum 150. Scale bar is 1mm.
(in case any one wonders about the bright 'specks' on the foliage, these are pollen grains of Norway spruce Picea abies. This conifer releases massive amounts of pollen nowadays so every surface is dotted with them. I washed the plants carefully before photographing them, but could not get rid of all pollen. The 100% crop shows pollen structural details as the lens is very sharp, but of course with image reduced here for web viewing, the finest details are lost)

Visiting an outdoor café yesterday with Breshna, the Afghan girl. She immediately struck up a friendship with another small girl of her age and they engaged in all the capers and frisks children are wont to. I captured them in action and they were all over me to see the results. (Ruth snapped the shot with her phone).
In case any one wonders about the Olympus -- have I abandoned ship? -- this camera is for my underwater housing together with the new Laowa 7.5mm f/2. I need to test the camera combination as I'll be leaving on an extended trip for my aquatic plant project in about 2 weeks' time, and the Olympus in its underwater housing is exactly what I require for some of the planned shots. The Olympus E-M1.2 is never going to be a favourite of mine, however the 7.5mm Laowa is darned good which helps assuage my pains as it were.

Thank you, John. Things are a bit strange this year. A bunch of hydrangeas bloomed around a month earlier, which is too early for them to bloom normally. But I found there were another bunch of them blooming relatively normally. So, we have seen hydrangeas in bloom in twice...

The flower of a Water Crowfoot Ranunculus peltatus, up close to show the pyriform honey pits (nectaria) seated at the yellow claw of the petals. The shape of the honey pits is a key diagnostic in this complex species aggregate.
Initial magnification 2.5X, here a 100% crop to show the detail transmitted through the Laowa 25mm f/2.8 lens on my Z7. The flower is very delicate and wilts rapidly when lifted out of the water, thus I had to shorten stack length to just 60 frames. Thus full range in-depth sharpness suffered, however what remains is rendered stunningly sharp. The honey pit is lower right on this frame. Individual pollen grains are easily seen, as well as irregularly shaped dust particles (from a low-traffic dirt road nearby) which obviously are trapped on the sticky carpels. The receptacle of this species has a thin covering of hyaline hairs, and these are plainly visible as well.

"Mehr Licht" (J.W. von Goethe).
From my small garden. Someone dumped this white rosetree; my wife rescued it from a litter bin. Now it is more than 2.5 m tall and blooms continuously from June to December. It became especially vigorous once it grew over the kitchen roof, suddenly gathering more light.

I'll bet I could teach that bird to say, "Hi David!" point to it's head and say, "Scratch, scratch." Parrots know their mates names, they name their children. Their children know their parent's names and their siblings names. They are as smart as three year old children.

In case anyone should wonder about my absence the coming weeks, the gear amassed below signals the reason :)
Going for my aquatic plants until beginning of July, and the diversity of required gear is amazing. We shall, for examle, do pollen sampling and staining of samples for various Water Star-worts Callitriche spp., document honey pits of the flowers of batrachian Ranunculus, hunt tiny Lemna spp., and a raft of other rather elusive oddities. Ending with an underwater drone video survey of Eelgrass Zostera.

Have a great time and do share some random images from the adventure ;)
PS To all of you - some amazing images in this thread as always! Thank you sharing them

To John, Fons, David and Paco, thank you for your kind words
A well seen and presented harmony.
The main reason for this Paco was I've had almost 10 weeks of dealing with builders, then more recently painting and decorating what they've been building. So I grabbed a few days away in the beautiful rustic county of Dorset in the south of the UK.
The break did me a power of good and re-opened my "seeing eyes"
This was taken after the first good night's sleep I'd had in a while. Nature just called out and said "hey, what about me?!" :)
-
This is not meant to be a compelling image. I was simply playing with my new Z6 and learning how it handles manual focus. This was without any image magnification and using a 105mm f/2.5. My AI lenses will being seeing more use from now on!

First day of summer
-
This year on the Aquatic Plant Tour we have been troubled a lot by bad weather and strong wind. in particular the latter is irritating my eyes and making manual focussing problematic. Thus I had to resort using the Z6 with native lenses - and AF -for a change.
Today we sought relief in a retro-styled 'diner' café down the southern coastline where I captured this with Z6 + 85mm f/1.8 Z

Nice one, Paco! What kind of music he's playing?
-
Thank you Akira. I think at that moment he was playing Baden Powell's "round midnight" but it is a flamenco based show.

That's nice. Carlos Benavent set the standard for the flamenco bass. He would respect him and be influenced by him. Baden Powerll was a passionate musician and his music should fit well with other flamenco based music.

Thanks Fons. At 28mm. Use the lens mainly at the extremes, but it's convenient to frame with this large zoom. A small perspective correction was applied. In order to neglect the (ugly) building behind the palace, a small bit of the top statue unfortunately disappeared ;)

We are currently at Lista, a part of the southern coastline where a large fraction of the population have American connections (massive emigration to North America in the late 1800's and early 1900's). The heritage shows :) I experience a cultural shock.

In 2011, during the Incubate festival, 101 piano's were placed into the streets of Tilburg and official buildings, ready to be played by anyone who like it. The title was 'Play me I am Yours'. After the festival the piano project was abandoned. More info: https://www.tilburgers.nl/tag/play-me-i-am-yours/ (https://www.tilburgers.nl/tag/play-me-i-am-yours/)
Now a 'new' permanent Piano was installed in the restored entrance hall of Central Station, ready to be played.

Couple days ago I received two used lenses (AFS Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G and AF VR-Nikkor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D) with both the exterior and the glass looking like "new" from a bloke in Norway. Price total paid less than 540 Euro. I have to say that the auto focus on the 35mm and the VR function on the 80-400 do not function. That's OK for me, but what you in the NikonGear community think? I must admit that nearly all my photos taken are with a tripod, and I'm also "a manual focusing person". The picture seen here is with the 80-400mm, aperture 16 and on a tripod.

Congrats on your acquisitions, i have my 35mm f/1.4g still and think its a fine lens to use maybe not up to the latest sharpness standards.
-
The 35/1.4 G has a very pleasant overall rendition for a modern lens with a smooth gradual transition from focused objects to the background. I should probably use it more often, but then that can be said of my other lenses in my cupboards :) Its AF is slow, but consistent so I had no issues in that regard.
The 80-400 never took my fancy, although its VR did work well enough.
If you aren't going away for vacation & trips, I might see you in about 3 weeks time in your home town, by the way.

Thanks, Fons and Birna! You are all welcome to my home and my town! See you!

I was ... but vegetational development has been slow this season so I ran out of sampling opportunities for my Aquatic plant project. Better to do the main survey in a few weeks' time.
Besides, Nikon NPS promised me an early delivery of the MC Micro-Nikkor 105/2.8 Z, so the decision to return home wasn't that difficult :)
