Here's a recent report. Interesting field review of Nikon lenses on the D850, especially for landscapes
http://fritzimages.com/blog/2017/nikon-d850-lens-review/33109/

Ed Fritz noted that "I did not like the D850 and the new 2017, Nikon AFS-70-200/E combination."
Anyone else come to this same conclusion in respect of their D850 experiences with this lens?

Well, the 70-200/2.8 FL is fantastic on the D810. The D850 isn’t likely to be any worse.

I have not been overly impressed with this article, neither his pictures, which are systematically oversaturated. I'm quite surprised about the D850 / 70.200 mm f/2.8E FL VR comments ... As I have only this outstanding lens, but no D850, so difficult to comment

I resonate the verdict on the1.8/20. Exceptional lens on every camera.
The 1.8/85G and the 1.4/105E are wonderful and the 8-15fish.
Did not use the 4/300pf yet on the D850 so I cannot comment on that one and the other glass in my bag and cupboard.
Next in line: 1.4/58G which can be tricky at times...

Thanks everyone - I too was surprised at his claim with respect to this lens which has certainly impressed others (and it works well on his D5 he says). I have a D810, but not the lens (yet), so I was a little concerned by his remarks.

There seems to be a growing trend toward what I would call very obvious over saturation. IMO, the results look artificial, plasticky, reminding me of a video game such as Myst. Some new editing programs like Aurora and Luminar promote such images in their advertising. It's almost as though they're promoting an alternate reality.
Some of this stuff is just too much. How can Fritz judge a lens using such results to draw his conclusions? JMO

Hi Everyone- thanks for the feedback and comments. It's interesting that my article was picked up by NG as I have not yet posted it thru social media. I was waiting until Monday to that. I wrote the article because I wanted to put some info out there about the D850 lens as compared to the recent NIKON D850 lens recommendation list. To be sure, once this camera gets into the hands of thousands there will be others who will provide the additional detail and lens nuances that we require. I am not that guy writing those kinds of articles. A great source of detail info for the D850 is LLyod Chambers website...In a nutshell, I thought all the glass I used, on the Nikon list or not, made great images at 45.7Mp!
I thought I'd clarify my comments on my article about the 70-200E. My comments were about the new ergonomics of the 70-200/E and not the lens performance. Thanks for your comments I just clarified and corrected my article to add more detail.
I tend to make images using the camera setting at Nikon Picture control Vivid or Landscape and not Flat or Neutral. I also run my images thru Nikon NX2 and not ACR before PS. This may amp the color saturation, however, I am always starting with a NIKON Raw file the way its set by Nikon.. My final post-processing workflow is continually evolving and adjusting and I appreciate some of the comments. This is the first published image I have made with the D850 and it is 100% in camera. The image as is received a twitter social like from Diane Varner ! (DianeVarner.com).
Finally, I just published a companion article on the actual image called Little Sunapee, (http://fritzimag.es/lttlsunapee) where I post-processed the image with Luminar, TK V5 Luminosity masks and a few sharpening actions. Have a great day everyone !

Your clarifications left me confused. You state it is wonderful on D5 and “Best Nikon glass wasted on D850”. Then you say it is an ergonomic problem with the lens. If the lens is an ergonomic problem, then how can it be wonderful on D5?

I fear your words are as over saturated as your photos.
Jack, that wasn't very nice.

I don't recall that he in anyway explained why he didn't like the new AF-S 70-200/2.8E FL ED VR on the D850. If he doesn't why? I'd just blow off his comments.

Think on the poor saps like me who only have the AF 80-200/2.8D ED (New).

OK, when I get time I'll read the article again. :)
Dave who would like to be dissatisfied with the AF-S 70-200/2.8E FL, etc. on a D850 and satisfied with it on a D5 but can't because he owns none of these.

"It doesn’t have a prayer competing with the D5 or D4s in fast-paced environments because of its toy-like slower fps." --FritzImages Outdoor Travel Photography
"toy-like" ??
You have lost me, this time for good.

Given the language and focus on social media exposure, this looks like click-bait to me.

"Horses of courses" IMO. For me, not an interesting article, even for what little landscape I do. The trip sounds like fun.

Why do you say 24-120 isnt for landscapes??
This lens is indeed my fav lens for just that, well I am a mountaineer/ botanist no photographer, so this is my style with 24-120, no crop, I would have cropped down some of the heavens to better get the flowers in the middle:
