I'm enjoying this thread. Lars - your last is splendid. The complementary deep blue and orange, and the layered reflections are wonderful.
We are having an exceptional autumn in Seattle - warm, calm and (mostly) dry. In a normal year our autumn colours would have blown off the trees weeks ago, but this year they are still clinging on. Here is my contribution (180 mm f/2.8 Ai-S at 2.8).

John, May I ask what lens you used for this dreamy leaf-scape?
Yes. That was the Micro-Nikkor 105/2.8 Ai-S. A great lens by the way, not only for Macro-shots.

-
Yes. That was the Micro-Nikkor 105/2.8 Ai-S. A great lens by the way, not only for Macro-shots.
My sample, even though it was the SIC version, suffered from low contrast. Your sample seems to be crisp.
-
Yes it is contrasty wide open. The lens is from 1990. Got it cheap on an Ebay auction, where pictures showed a dirty lens, but the glass is clean, like new. And after a day polishing with a tootbrush the whole lens looks like new now ;)
The 105/2.8 shows sometimes a very small amount of chromatic aberration but easy to correct. The quality of the images surprised me in a positive way. It's my favo macro lens at the moment.

Asian Citrus Psyllid (Diaphorina citri) and Huanglongbing...
A few pictures of a lucky friend's citrus tree leaves showing Asian Citrus Psyllid leaf damage and a possible dead nymph. The tree is/was infested and may be infected but symptoms of huanglongbing take time to show up. The fruit will fail to develop and ripen, parts of the tree will die. Eventually in about ten years if the tree is not destroyed complete tree will die. Currently there is no cure for huanglongbing
If the trees test positive for huanglongbing the CDFA (California Department of Farming and Agriculture) will destroy them.
And the leaves that are green turn to brown
And they whither with the wind
And they crumble in your hand
--Paul Simon
CDFA agents told my friend her trees are the first to be found with an Asian citrus psyllid infestation in San Bernardino Country.
1) leaf curl
2) sooty mold
3) possible dead nymph

It's been a good year for vegetation, including the nasty stuff. For those not familiar with North American plants, this is the juiciest crop of poison ivy ever. I think my camera started itching.
-
The west-of-the-Rockies version ("Poison Oak") is plentiful this year, due to good winter rains. This plants in this location have acquired an infection or parasite, common here when there has been a boom in the growth cycle.

The color is beautifully saturated. Is that shot in VIS or in wide (all the way from UV to IR) spectrum?

Been looking through this thread (as well as the lunar thread) so many nice photos to view.

No just Mozilla. I think that it may have to do with the M100 being in portraid mode and not relaying correct orientation info.

Winter Beech

Winter Beech
Leaves look most beautifully when seen through the transmitted light.
-
I agree Akira.
Young Beeches tend to hold their leaves into the winter while the older ones drop theirs in the fall as other trees do. The late afternoon light came in and out of the clouds illuminating these when out. It was nice to wait for the light to shine and brighten them.
My only regret - that I can’t capture in the image more exactly what I see in the original moment.
More practice Tom, more practice!!
-
Trying for the better is essential, I believe.
This leaf under the normal light looked attractive and proved that there will always be some exception.

This looked so healthy as to seem unreal. The shine was strong. I couldn´t help to look for the inner paths in the second image.

Many thanks John! - it was a gloomy November afternoon walk :) Certainly a contrast to your great sunny yellow Ginko leaves - it always lightens up in the autumn.
I once photographed a large Ginko from below the tree and it turned out to be a female tree that had shed its berries on the ground ... they contain butyric acid so a very nasty smell was released (vomit..). It took quite a while to get the smell off my boots :o

Can they be consumed raw, like Coca leaves, or are only when brewed?
Well yes Keith
The effects aren't in the same league as Coca though.
Generally I found anything other than very new leaves to taste quite bitter when eaten fresh though.
Some of the local groups ferment tea (similar principle to Sauerkraut).
If matured for long enough, the results can be good
Note the blade she tapes to her finger to help with harvesting.
2nd pic is part way through production (yes, we got to try doing each stage ourselves)
