Whats on the river, these objects Birna?
Structures used for controlling the log driving. Called variously log piers, boom piers, stone cribs, and probably more designations. Norwegian name is 'lensekar'. They measure around 15 by 15m and enclose many tons of rocks.
This river, the largest in the country, was extensively used for timber rafting and log driving until the late '70s. At the peak periods one could literally walk across the river. However the danger of being crushed by logs was significant and the drivers ('river pigs') had an elevated mortality rate.
Here is a closer look at these structures.

very educational. Do they not drive logs anymore?
-
No. Rail and truck shipments have replaced the old-fashioned, and dangerous, log driving all over the Nordic region. However, the controlling and sorting facilites on the river and adjacent lakes are kept as a historical memorial.
One could say the "new" system is non-sustainable compared to the old. But that applies to most components of our society these days.

Cucumbers or zucchini, I think. Sometimes, when the final product doesn't reach a minimum price that covers production costs, farmers here prefer to throw away the vegetables or fruits or sell them as livestock feed.

You have set the lens to M? The A/M ring is prone to breaking, by the way. Either use it set to AF or M mode permanently. I taped down the A/M ring to avoid it breaking. Other Nikkors of this vintage known to behave similarly are Zoom-Micro 70-180/4.5-5.6, AF Micro 200/4, and AF 105/2 DC. Probably the AF 135/2 DC as well.

Hi Birna. I haven't set the lens to M mode, I'll have to see how to do it. The A/M ring doesn't seem to be broken.

I already have it in M, and it works fine. I'm missing the diaphragm aperture ring; it's stuck and won't rotate whether I'm in the red zone or the other position. It won't move manually. In the non-red position it now rotates, but the screen shows FEE, and it doesn't fire. A mess.

If you wish to use the aperture ring on Nikon DSLRs, and avoid 'FEE', you must set the camera to use the aperture ring. It is not the default setting and that confuses many users. For some inscrutable reason, Nikon wants to dumb down the users to use the camera dials to set aperture and that requires the lens aperture to be locked. The drawback is poor handling as all functions now are done with the photographer's right hand. I always set my cameras to use the lens aperture ring if one exists. (unfortunately, this functionality is lost when F-mount Nikkors are attached to Z cameras through FTZ adapters and adds to the awkward handling of the adapted lenses. Another reason to go Z native where third-party lens makers allow true aperture ring usage).
To move the aperture ring on the lens, unlock the 'Max. aperture' lock. It is a small slider at the rear of the lens. If the camera is set up correctly, there will be no 'FEE'.

Thanks, Birna, for your help. I still haven't gotten the ring settings right. I like the lens for landscapes; it's very powerful. If I can't use it manually, I'll do it another way.
-
Send me a PM with your camera model(s) and I'll look up the proper camera setting for you.
I own this lens myself and there should be no problem using it either in AF or M mode, with aperture control and no 'FEE' message.

The tower in the foreground and the towers at the foot of the mountain are very different,
They should, they were constructed five hundred years apart for very different purposes. The one in the foreground is from the XVI century and used to signal the attack of pirates; the ones in Gibraltar were made very recently, gaining land to the sea and for luxury living.
There is a local expression "Gribaltar con montera, levantera" meaning something like "Gibraltar with a hat, wind from the east" as the clouds have to jump over the rock and creates those formations.

I don't buy any more photo gear. I have plenty and more. However, once in a while there is an exception made :) I'm just a human.
This brand new Viltrox 9mm f/2.8 autofocus lens for Z/DX drew my attention and I did a pre-order before the official launch. After a few days it arrived. looking almost identical in outline to its longer sibling Viltrox AF 20/2.8, it shares the extreme low weight and almost ridiculously low price. Set wide open, it might not be the sharpest lens in the cupboard; however stopped down a little it is amazing and bear evidence to what the clever people of third party lens nakers can come up with. It has extremely low colour aberration, so colour rendition is excellent, image contrast is pleasing without being too harsh, and the icing of the cake is the lowest level of corner vignetting I've yet seen in a superwide lens. And the price?? I paid less than USD 200 incl. UPS express shipping.
Since the IR portrait of the lens below shows there are IR reflective areas of the lens casing, it's no wonder the lens showed some (mild) IR hot spots. However, even those might be tolerated on occasion. Almost all lenses for the Z mount, native or adapted, will have this issue to some extent.

two non fish non zoom in 9mm? wow? I did not see the small lenses behind the big ones obviously
Lenses can be stored anywhere, Frank :D
The 9mm lenses are Laowa 9mm f/5.6 and the new arrival, Viltrox 9mm f/2.8 AF. Both are Z mount, but the Laowa is bigger and much heavier since it is made for FX. It is also MF and cannot use front filtration. By contrast, the Viltrox has AF, is a featherweight and smaller, since it only covers DX. both are good lenses, however I must say the colour handling of the Viltrox is even better as virtually all colour aberrations are brought well under control. Most unusual for a super wide lens at any price point.
-
Using the ultrawide 9mm Viltrox on the Z fc is enjoyable. Its handling of colours is superb due to the virtually non-existing CA issues.
It aptly demonstrates what I call "wide angle paradox" of showing how depth of field is limited despite the very short focal length. This is evident because the lens itself is so sharp. One sees this clearly when the lens is focused very close. Even at f/8, I could not get the wall behind these Parthenocissus vines in sharp focus, because the front subject was so close (approx. 20 cm). The area coverage is there, though.

Standard cliché for the oncoming season, however the new Viltrox 9mm /2.8 made this so easy :D (I initially had a pun on this, but it didn't translate from my native Norwegian into English; Norwegian 'lett' means 'light weight' or 'easy' thus the pun hinted at the featherweight of the new lens)

The photo shows a lichen. Several genera can appear like this, so ID is left unresolved. The round 'cups' are the apothecia, where eventually spores are released.

Today the weather truly was awful. Peasoup-like and ice cold fog all over, limiting free sight to <50m, +1C. Not at all conducive to outdoor photography.
Nevertheless, I did some work along our local narrow-gauge railway which is a protected cultural heritage item. They even kept a section of the old telephone line with the poles along the tracks -- something one almost never sees in the wild anymore in this country.

nice composition and use of the 300mm PF on DX Birna
Thank you. Yes, the 300PF works well on the little Z fc and the combination handles quite nicely too. Most long Nikkors don't do this because the outfit becomes too front heavy. The 400mm f/4.5Z is a borderline case.
I must admit that I find the black Z fc endearing and enjoyable as a walk-around camera. Thus I don't regret selling my first Z fc, which was a 'panda' model and replacing it with an all-black one.
Nikon Zf is likely a 'better' camera, but its heft can be too much for casual shooting.

Thanks Luc and Ian
The extra functions with focus peaking, subject selection and focus zoom. That will help to work 1) faster and 2) more accurate and sharp results as the focus range is swallow (despite the f/3.5) with this lens. This also apllies for the Voigtländer 180/4

Thanks Fons. I am not a fan of the Z 6.... I am happy with the 90/3.5 You not?
Likewise. I never warmed to the Z6. The Z7 at least had a 45MPix count to dampen its awkward ugliness.
As to the 90/3.5, it is a nice little lens and quite useful in combination with the dedicated close-up lens. Not 'macro', but one can acquire excellent close-ups. There is also an elusive rangefinder version, specified as 85mm f/3.5, that is marked APO as well and is even smaller since the Nikkor S-Z adapter is thinner than the FTZ.
-
Thanks Birna.
Is the Rangfinder 85/3.5 optically the same as the 90/3.5?
-
I don't think so since they obviously are differently designed. They share the same nice rendition in terms of colours, but images by the rangefinder lens are a bit less contrasty. The filter thread is minute as well, if memory serves just 39mm.
