Today, Jan 3rd,  I went to see an exhibition of HO scale trains with the intention of grabbing some images, but I evidently left my technique in 2017. I missed nailing focus on most shots. Sheesh!

I need to settle into the D7200, which is way more demanding that my old D200. Practice, practice, practice, is exactly what I need to do. This was the not all that great best of the bunch.

My hometown features DHL Headquartes, the UNFCCC and several other UN offices

What is in the picture?

right at the Rhine River Promenade there is the old German Parliamentary building with the "Waterwork" building belonging to a collection of buildings in the parliamentay garden
behind that the flat white "Schürmann-Bau" housing the Deutsche Welle foreign broadcasting service
big one on the left is the "Langer Eugen", the old parliamentary administration building now used exclusively by the United Nations
behind that is the DHL World Headquarters https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post_Tower build by Helmut Jahn and partners: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helmut_Jahn
The Antennae like sculpture in red is "L'Allumé" by Mark di Suvero

Your final image shows the potential of our effort. Wonderful images that give my day meaning beyond the forum

This does not seem to be the most popular thread of all.

Also not all of my or your contributions are genious strikes some are more footnotes of the day, diary stuff.

I see this thread as a daily meeting point of John, Akira, me and you and some other regulars like Paco or Armando or Keith or Jack .....

Fons- I always read these monthly threads as they give me a perspective of another part of the world or another point of view. I’m not very prolific with comments here as the images pass by, but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate what is posted.

You had some brilliant work in December which I really liked and should have commented on at the time.

I’m not posting anything here right now as it is still dark and quite rainy, but I’m happy to look at the screen and see a willow in winter or something frozen from Bent. It makes the day seem larger somehow.

The other thing it makes me think about is how do the people from the far north make it though winter!

Have been looking for that 'A'. not around any longer.
Production in Japan has stopped. But still to get in a mint condition because the camera was a bit too 'difficult'  for the average user.    Mine has an image-count of 809, which is of course ridiculous low  :D

Thank you all. I feel good. I am off medication, no immune supressors anymore. Just Microbiome Diet plus Frankincense and Myrrh, some Vitamins and Minerals. The center is the balance in the bodily fluids caused by deacidification with herbal teas, vegetable, meat, fish all freshly prepared diet, reduction of allergens like cow milk protein and wheat protein and gluten. I try to sleep well and enough and get one hour of walking and running outdoors built into my day. That all helps to push my book and my house forward at a steady pace, still do my camera work and care for my family. I am a happy man in many respects. Most important: I do what I feel makes sense to me, is important to me and I feel what others think or say or do is not important as long as I live in congruence with my inner form.

That possibly does not make much sense to you, does it?

"I love you all" is a good summary.

1) I prepared much more food than I thought would be required. In fact it was all eaten, before everybody was satisfied. Unbelievable. I feel they ate even though they were not hungry anymore.

2) Bjørn's shot shows how great the D500 is. It is on eye level to the D850 and I use both in parallel every day, so I feel I can say that.

3) The dish is halal lamb chops (1.6 Kilo) plus potatoes soaked in seasoning of fresh herbs and garlic (2.5 kilo) and green beans (1 Kilo). These six klios of food were not enough to feed 6 adults and two kids.

4) We compensated for the shortcoming with several bottles of really good wine.

Thanks Mike, Frank and Fons.

Yes, That Nikon A is outstanding, great 14 bits RAWs  from the DX sensor, very good 28mm lens, very small size with   11  x  6  x   4 cm, so smaller than the 1 series and a well known  menu like a Nikon DSRL.

Food looks delicious Frank.

Great details on the leafs and snow, Bjørn. The lens does me remind a bit of the first Micro 55/3.5

John never tried that 200mm macro.
Great lenses, give some distance.      Have now the MF and the AF    Light (740gram)  vs Heavy (1190gram),  18cm  vs 20cm,      a bit of (easy correctable) coma vs perfection,   1:2   vs 1:1,  (but with 4T no problem)  Better with Distance  vs limited in Distance shots.

The MF is pretty rare in Europe, was lucky to find one.   The lens is only 2 cm taller than the 200mm QC. and with that size it fits easier in the camera bag and thus more flexible.

I own the 4/200 Ai-S. Superb lens in the near field, wonderful detail rendering & color fidelity. I do all my spontaneous food shots with it. Bokeh a bit "boxy" and technical in the far field, you can clearly see the hard edges of the aperture blades.

Thank you for you nice comments on my photos.

Interesting shot concerning architectural style anbd tradition. Very dense, but still separated dwellings.

Here we had Rain up to 2000m wich caused some real problems in the snow layer stability. Highes avalance warning in the Alps! Down here it is rain, rain, rain with temperatures coming up from 1°/5° to 9°/16° (night C/day C)

Got more than 1 m of wet snow dumped over us last week -- now, even the snow pack has compressed and subsided significantly, there is still plenty of it :D

A snapshot from the window of my living room today, to show the current state of my backyard deck and garden.

Frank, yes there are cultures of two duckweeds buried there under the snow. According to theory, one of the strains should survive in spring, the other not.

No idea what the present situation is -- of course. The cultures are inaccessible :D

Thanks kind words John and Amando. Yes it have become a pretty normal winter now with -33°C and plenty of more snow. When the image was captured it was unseasonably warm considering the mostly clear weather, and between then an now we also got a good dose of freezing rain with plenty of power-outs as snow did not melt off the trees, but became loaded even more.
