I want an agreement with Roland such that when one of us passes it's me first.

I sent a donation a few years back after I realized how much I'd used his site, and I encourage others to do the same.  It's a labor of love that's immensely valuable in helping to understand the many versions of various Nikkor (and other Nikon) lenses over the decades.  Thanks, Roland!

For those few who haven't visited it yet (there are also newcomers to nikongear.net), here's the link to the main page of Roland's list:

http://www.photosynthesis.co.nz/nikon/serialno.html

When I open up my browser, this page opens up as one of the standard browser pages. Another one is nikongear.net

Thanks, Roland!

Yes, fully agree.  It's most complete Nikon database one can imagine. Very valuable and a unique set-up.

Just thinking, should we make Nikon be aware of and recognize Roland's effort?

Thank you for your comments everyone, greatly appreciated :) It would not have been possible without the support of the members here and the wider Nikon community. I would especially acknowledge Richard de Stoutz whose collection provides a valuable photo library for my site.

Give that my site has existed in one form or another for at least 25 years, I am sure Nikon employees are aware of my site, I wonder what they think of my efforts? The Nikon corporation may have mixed views on my site. On one hand they will be pleased there are those who devote so much time to their products, it helps to keep their brand strong. On the other hand, there are likely to be some inaccuracies or missing data (especially camera serial nos) which could be misleading, and where my site has accurate production numbers my site could be giving away valuable information they prefer their competitors not to see??

The nearest to any sort of official contact from Nikon was when a representative at Nikon France emailed me about 10 years ago. They were setting up a database so owners could register their lens and camera serial numbers. They wondered where I got my serial numbers from as I had information they didn't even have :o :)

I also enjoy and regularly visit your site. It's amazing that such information could be collected. :-)
