A year and a half ago, I bought ANOTHER 50-300. And I'm going to keep it because the glass is really excellent (the body isn't as pristine). One of the first images I took with it was a little abstract, beside a cataract in pretty dim light (on a heavy tripod). Nikon D780.

Ah - the AI version which is the one I own. I consider the 50-300 as a perfect lens to have stashed in your car, readily available if the need for it arises.

Not mentioned in the view is the tripod mount, which ranks among the best from Nikon.
