Which lens fits this adapter......
« on: February 19, 2021, 22:43:45 »
I just received an adapter I purchased on ebay.
It was advertised as and Prominent Nokton (50/1.5) to Lecia M39 adapter.
But there is not way a Prominent Nokton can be mounted. So I need to complain.
Now I just want to find out which lens this adapter can adapt. Maybe I could use it if I find out which lens the adapter it for.
First image is just to compare the size of adapter. Lens a Nikkor 50/2.
The inner part of the adapter is spring loaded. I don't think I have any lens that fits......

I will have a look.
The threaded side is M39 (Leica).

If I measure the inner diameter it is around 51mm.

The adapter fits a Leica LTM.
If adapter is made for Leica LTM as advertised it may be for a rangefinder lens if infinity focus should be possible......but you never know.......

Think I found out now via the rangefinder forum. There are some really "nerds" there.... :-)
Then I learned about a lens I did not know: Alpa Kern Macro Switar 50mm?

There is an M-adapter here that looks quite similar:
https://metabones.com/products/details/MB_ALPA-LM-BM2

......so I think it must be for such a lens.
Next think is if those lenses are worth "playing with" on a Z-body.......

Mystery solved ! :D

Interesting history of these lenses. Not cheap, though...

The Metabone adapter is quite expensive itself !

At least you don't need to buy one in case you want to play with this macro switar. ;)

Yes, I have also been looking at the 50/1.8 and 50/1.9.
The latest f1.9 seems to be the best performing and also the most expensive.
If I could get an optically mint f1.8 at a reasonable price.....I would be happy with that.
Think I also have the option to return the adapter to the seller. It was a bit expensive. It must be a vintage adapter.....no aluminium....
The brand Alpa.....from years back.....not the cheapest you could get......

In terms of brand building, the Alpa was a Swiss version of Leica.

The adapter is now on its way back.
Think there are too much collector value in those 50/1.8 or 50/1.9 Switar which raises the prices a lot.
I can get similar image quality with Nikkors.....

The adapter is now on its way back.

You are wise !

However, regarding the register distance of Alpa cameras, the Alpa/Z adapter should be 21,8mm which means the combo NikonZ/Kern Switar would be still very compact.
And at least you are pretty sure you can resale this lens (with adapter)  without loose money... 8)

Yes, I was very surprised that the adapter was for a SLR camera as the LTM adapter was very slim.
The Alpa SLR must the very compact since the distance from rear lens and film plane can be so short.....and still space for a mirror.

A mint 50/1.9 Switar could probably be a good investment :-)

There are still some nice Nikkors I don't have that are not as expensive :-)

I discovered that the Nikkor 50/2 H-C for the rangefinder (S-mount) is a Sonnar type design and not the gauss design as the Nikkor 50/2 H-C for SLR.
It seems the S-type is not as expensive. It should render very well.....but a mint one may be difficult to find. Should be less than 3000 euros......anyway....
