a review of the beast in modern context :o :o :o

always wanted one before. it's both good and bad, at one hand it feels outdated but its quite sharp.

Thx! I really like this lens, it's a beast but really gets the job done - Very big and heavy.
I have the off-white safari version (yes sort of pale gray) since I had the D1 around beginning of the 2000's,,,
Amazing do all fast lens!

"AF Zoom-Nikkor 35-60mm f/2.8D " mentioned twice should be 35-70mm.
It's interesting the newer 24-70mm zooms are every bigger but are not called "the beast", maybe everyone is used to big zooms now. :)

In the mirrorless world, the title "the beast" is taken over by the standard lenses of f1.4 and faster.   :o :o :o

The 28-70mm AFS is much more substantial ;) Zoom rings are approx 83.5mm vs. 74.5mm

i used the 24-70 for years...i dont recall it to have great corners as with the 28-70 but its flare resistance is a lot better. is it just me?

the 24-70 is unbeatable at the center thats all i know :o :o :o

Oh yes ... I was looking at the bare specs, the 24-70 is longer but is less bulky and a little lighter. Still not a small lens. However the 24-70VR is even heavier and longer, perhaps not quite as fat though :)
