cheap nikkor tilt shift lens?
« on: November 16, 2020, 06:56:13 »
hello, unlike canon nikon doesnt have older lenses that could alter the focus plane.

older pc nikkors can only alter the vanishing point :o :o :o

did i get this right? i wonder why nikon never made one back in the day since it is within their ability to do so.

PC Nikkors are all developed during the film days,  I guess photographers who needed tilt/shift functions went directly for the large format cameras with more flexible controls of the focal plane.

Cheap - Well depends on what you compare it to and grade

I forgot them for sure.   :o :o :o

However, the macro photography may have been the only area of photography where smaller format was advantageous.  For products (maybe except for the jewelries) and architectures of bigger budgets, they would be using LF cameras.

Not sure how cheap is cheap, and what is actually available, but there has at some point been a Russian tilt shift 35.  Long ago I looked briefly at Arsenal, which I think may also have been marketed as Arsat, and there now seems to be a Ukrainian version, the Arax.

Don't forget the venerable Canon FD 35mm f/2.8 tilt shift lens.

It will fit a Z-mount camera with an FD to Z adapter and its mount can be modified to fit an F-mount camera.

And the EOS mount tilt/shift lenses can fit Z-mount cameras via adapters;  it must be said however that the EOS tilt/shift lenses are not likely to be cheap - they never were - because they are Canon's premium L-type glass if IIRC.

I rather doubt the Canon falls in the cheap category, but as I recall, Birna adapted one for F mount, so if one wished to do so, she's probably the resource to consult.

I saw the very Canon FD TS35mm/2.8 of "A" condition at Fujiya Camera priced 44,000 JPY a few days ago.  :o :o :o

thanks for the recommendations :o :o :o

what about olympus or other brands, do they have something similar to what C had? ::)

44,000JPY is considered expensive for me in today's economy  ::)

You probably meant PB-4 bellows, if I recall correctly PB-5 does not have any tilt/shift...

Yes PB-4  ;)

Has anyone adapted a PB-4 to Z mount natively, not using FTZ?
Seems this would expand the lenses that it could work or at least let them get closer to infinity focus.

Very trivial. Just add an Z-bayonet instead of the usual F-mount on the rear end of the PB-4.

My supply of factory Z bayonets is currently depleted as they are all deployed to various DIY contraptions. However, no bigge ordering another batch of them. Alternatively, one could get cheaper Z-adapters that don't build much, for example an Z-M42 that is virtually flat.

However, the standards of hte PB-4 do add a lot of length on their own, thus this might only work with lens heads or enlarger lenses, or perhaps older view camera lenses.

You can attach PB-4 easily to a Z-mount camera with BORG Z mount, an M57 to M49.8mm adapter (pt. no. 7923 which has an internal 52mm thread) and K3 ring, on condition that no parts of PB-4 and a Z body would interfere each other.

The picture is with an m4/3 mount should show how the combo would look.  The total thickness (from the camera mount to the F-mount) is about 11.6mm.
