710-210 f/4 E: Not entirely up to the snappiness of the 75-150 Nikon E, but pretty sharp and with a pleasant muted rendition.

The less said about the 70-210 AF, the better. I have tried several samples and they have been disappointing each and every one.

my experience with the AF version is a bit better

I find the 70-210/4 Series E also better than the AF.  The AF  does handle  close ups not so good. A mixed bag.
