Repair to D810
« on: July 21, 2020, 11:24:18 »
I have been offered a D810 cheap but I need to take off the F mount ring for a minor repair to the mirror box.
Can I just take out the hold down screws and lift it off ?

Thanks in advance

Basically, yes. However, do ensure you have the proper JIS screw drivers, otherwise you can easily strip the screw heads :( Also, try not to overdo the torque when you put the screws in after the repair.

There usually are shims under the bayonet that you need to handle with care and ensure are put back correctly later.

The contact pins require special attention as well. They should be seated on a small block of their own so probably this can stay put and won't need to be moved.

as I thought ...I think someone has dropped it and ripped the ring off which has been replaced but left some damage to the box.  I am well versed in this but usually stick to repairing D800 with cracked /bent chassis

many thanks
