I reckon the 24-70 f.4S suffers by being called a “kit lens” because kit lens infers an inferior quality, when it really isn’t!
This lens deserves better treatment from commentators because to describe it as a mere kit lens is an insult to a super lens!

Agree that 24-70/4 is a super lens. No flare even with the sun in the frame!

Yesterday's moon, from my studio window (facing E), passing above house roofs

A couple of branches from a nearby cedar tree almost touch the moon.

Sky yesterday was near perfect, still too few cars to create smog!

Nikon 1V1+FT1+TC14eII+200-500mm @200mm, same FOV as a 756mm lens in FF terms

Amazingly dreamy shot, Massimo!

Thanks, Akira!

I have made a correction to the description, camera was a 1V1, zoom @200mm (280mm accounting for the 1.4 TC), FOV equivalence is 756mm. Found out my error by looking at "useless" EXIF field  -ExifIFD:FocalLengthIn35mmFormat which stated -correctly- 756mm

It's officially spring over in my part of the world and about time to put summer tyres on the car ... I was helped with the task by my local, friendly car mechanic.

The ubiquitous little red car looks different in B/W by the Sony monochrome camera. As no filter was used, the output is blend of visible light and IR. The tiny Voigtländer 25mm f/4 Skopar SC lens is an excellent performer, but would hardly let any UV through. It handles IR with ease though.

Returned home in high spirits only to find an updated weather forecast predicting heavy snowfall the day after tomorrow. Oh well. Summer tyres will stay on car, I  stay put indoors :(

Ie. 280mm. No more and no less.

Please note, the following photo has no artistic interest. It is only used to evaluate the field-of-view of a FF camera compared to a Nikon 1 (2.7 crop factor).

Same point of view, only a little higher (the cedar tree branches have a different position)
Different camera + lens setup: Nikon D600 (FF) + TC20eIII + Nikkor 200-500 @ 378mm (or in the vicinity, as visually accurate as possible).
The infamous EXIF field  -ExifIFD:FocalLengthIn35mmFormat yields 750 mm, only 6mm difference from the above nighttime picture

You can see that the horizontal field of view for a FF camera @750 mm corresponds fo the horizontal FOV for a Nikon 1 @ 280mm, accounting for the 2.7x crop factor.

N.B. I'm not talking DOF, I'm talking FOV.

You could have the same exact vertical framing if I had taken the time (no, I didn't have the time!) to position the second camera EXACTLY as the first, that is a little lower down.

Good enough for me.

Thanks John.

As you can see from today's daylight picture, an otherwise boring scene can become something at the right moment. I'm lucky that I was alerted by my wife that the moon was saying hello from behind the skyline!
