Zeiss 50/0.7 to Z conversion

By accident I came across this lens:

…...would it be possible to convert it to Z-mount?

The first problem might be to get one but the quite rough handling of the lens box by the girl......she should give it to me instead….I would take better care of it.

Don't think I have watched the fim where the lens was used. It might be first step.

I guess one of those 50/0.7 lenses could do service on a Z body. Perhaps not in the FX mode as image circle likely is on the small side.

So on a Z50 which is under way to me…...this lens would work.
I now found out the there is a wide angle attachment on the lens to make it a 35mm.
I could live with the 50mm alone.

If the lens was used wide open for the candle-light scene it must be fine at 0.7.
After all probably better to invest in a Noct95 as the 0.7 might be as expensive on ebay if possible to find one.

Alas, the rear element of the special Planar f/0.7 needs to sit about 3 millimeters from the film/sensor.  Might be difficult to arrange on a sensor with a filter stack in front of it and a structural frame around that.

You would be looking quite a while on ebay to find one---they only made 10 copies! Noct 95 will be much less $$$!

First, only 10 of those lenses were made (for NASA). Buying one would be next to impossible, though they can be rented. Second, the flange distance was so short that Kubrick actually had to have the cameras modified so that the gate lifter was disabled, since even that (to allow the film to pass the sprocket wheels in the camera) would have damaged the rear element of the lens. It might be possible to adapt the lens physically, but not easily by any means.

Very interesting article. It seems this lens would still hold up to todays standards if used on a real camera.
With only 10 lenses made the chance to try it out is not that realistic.

I found this link below where the 50/0.7 is also showed with the wide angle attachment. Kubrick was very keen about his lenses probably because he grew up as a still photographer.

I wonder which camera Nasa used it for when the distance to film plane is that small. Probably a special made camera. Should be possible to find it on "google".

Hasselblad, probably a special version like the one with the 38mm lens.

Ok...so like the Hasselblad Biogon camera.
It seems the 50/0.7 is most famous for Kubrick use than the actual use it was made for. Nasa camera does not show up easy on google.

But maybe we can get one from Nikon?
