But it is not the 1st one (BW portrait) that is shot with 135/3.5 wide open?      …...it looks a bit too sharp…...the middle one looks more like the 135/3.5 wide open?
But nice pictures anyway…….
The AI/AIS 135/3.5 is sharp wide open. The trick is to focus it accurately.

On the BW portrait, I can't see any signs of polygonal blurs in the background, they look nicely rounded (it is hard to tell though), which suggests the lens was wide open. My guess is this one was shot with the 105/2.5 anyway, due to the soft way the background is rendered.

On the middle one, the middle person (shoulder) is sharp, the other two look a little soft because they are in front or behind the focus plane (DoF too small). My guess is this was shot with the 135/3.5 as the background bokeh is not as smooth as the 105/2.5.

I'd say the last was shot with the 85/1.8 as the field of view looks wider.

Speaking of the old 85mm f1.8 K: The first image I took at the border of South Africa and Zimbabwe back in 1987, on Kodachrome with a Nikon F2. The second image, a colleague took of me about 10 years ago in the old msnbc.com newsroom, with the same camera and lens and Kodacolor 400.

Thank you! A natural light shot a lucky one as it is now 5 years later the 'little woman' is not all that cooperative anymore ;)

The AI/AIS 135/3.5 is sharp wide open. The trick is to focus it accurately.

With my copy of the 135/3.5 Ai, there is marked improvement going from wide open to f/4. A certain amount of haze disappears and the clarity of the image jumps up a notch.  Amazing that such a small change in aperture makes such a easily seen difference!

It's hard to find old images scanned from film, and harder yet to remember what lenses I was using, but here's one I know was done with F and 85/1.8H. Casual snap and low res scan, but I think it did a pretty good capture.  That's my mother in law, at around 90.  She made it to 99. Fled Cuba in 1962 with four kids to reunite with husband who had defected.  Under the exterior tough as nails.
