Lacewing late aftenoon.

Hello !

This is the first image I wish to summit for critique.

As the first one, I am not sure about the size or weight, just trying, as I can't get the pic in preview

Hi Francis. I like it very much. The animal is very well defined, the shadow is a perfect emphasis of its features. The wall structure is a great backdrop.

+1. I also notice that the background is unevenly sharp. Is that because you tried to get the insect sharp (head and wing lead edges, and the body too) and went away from orthogonality for that purpose?

Thanks, Airy. Yes, I framed it in order to get the shade diagonal toward the top/left corner.

This is a very pleasant image the light-green board is the perfect background of this particular bug.

The diagonal of the long shadow is wonderful. I like it that the texture fades from lower right (very sharp, much depth) to upper left (softer, less depth).

It might be interesting to darken the insect's shadow and the lower left shadow just a bit. And also pull down the extreme highlights a little bit. A darker shadow on the lower left would offset the diagonal symmetry and give the composition a bit of tension.

It is also possible that these suggestions wouldn't work well at all.  ;D My larger point is that this photo offers several opportunities for other work-ups aside from the one you have presented.

Good stuff Francis. I think this very nice image can be slightly enhance, (at least on my monitor), if you dodged the head just a bit (highlights) and darken the shadow. This would add a bit mor contrast and drama to your already very nice image.
