Thanks Fons.  Yes, nice rendering, sharp wide open, moderate loca, easy to focus, relatively compact for a fast 200mm.

Listening to the Tawny owl while the moon cast some light in to my backyard.

I love this!  Fantastic contrast between the shadows vs. the moonlight and the silence vs. the ululation of the owl.

Test with the Vivitar 200mm  f/3.0 Series one  on the Z6

Great shot!  Yet another lens with its price to be skyrocketed.  :D

Thanks Akira.

Hahaha. I think the 200mm f/3.0  Vivitar Series One in the Nikon mouth is pretty rare.  Most people bought the zoom or the f/3.5 in those years. The 200/3  was relatively expensive.

Amazing pageant of light and shadow.  Happy New Year, Øivind!
Outstanding shot, Øivind.
Thanks for the kind words on my firework image both of you.

After an unusually warm fall until Christmas, with only one cold period, we have since then entered a more classic temperature for this time of the year in Alaska, with temperatures lingering between -30 and -40°C.

Thus I could not let the opportunity pass to cold test my D500 at -40°C yesterday. It stayed outside for 6 hours, before a warm battery was inserted, and passed the test without problems. In a previous test almost that cold, I also tested the VR of the 300mm f/4 PF, which also passed without problems, although a bit more audible than usual. This time it was finally mounted at the end of the test, as I could not resist a capture of the almost full moon. AF worked exemplary, and after the lens had cooled down a little, I discovered that seeing was not that bad, in spite of inversion layers. This is a 100% crop with TC-14E.

Amazing moon shot, Øivind!  I also hope your hand-crafted power source works well in that cold.

Here's my take for today (Jan. 10).  A view from the 6th floor.

Thanks Akira,
No need for external power on this occasion, but it has been tested at -40°C before and works well for quite some time, and longer if allowed a pause inside to warm up a little.

Yes.  Thanks for the remark.  Strange for a 200mm.  Didn't check for lens-distortions ;)  Made a small adjustment in Camera Raw and uploaded a new version.

I guess the pincushion distortion is one of the common problem of a telephoto design.  Perhaps the speed of f3.0 was prioritized when it was designed.
