Quite interesting, I've always suspected the possibility of reducing hotspots with sensor coverglass coatings.

I always thought the hot spots were due to internal baffles that reflected (non absorbing) in the IR.   try viewing a lens that hot spots in the IR using a macro lens to look inside. I am sure you find shiny baffles.

Shiny baffles are one reason, but there is more to that...

I am sure there is but I would think they were the dominant scatterer.
