These are really fascinating photos, both strikingly beautiful and scientifically engaging.  And it looks like one of the Images of Distinction is from Macro Cosmos, who posts here:

Was pretty glad that I made the cut. Didn't have much time before the deadline to get some nicer 20x shots, so I selected some 10x ones I liked.

Here's a 20x version of the same specimen. Lots more in my flickr.
