It was the summer residence of the Russian tsars. The interior was almost completely destroyed in WWII but is now beautifully reconstructed.
Soviet archivists had managed to document a fair amount of the interior before the war, which proved of great importance in reconstructing the palace.

In the more splendid rooms indeed porcelain, in others handpainted to perfection. In these rooms the real stuff if I remember correctly.

This looks remarkably like Peterhof Palace.

Luc, did you use HDR for interior shots ?

Francis, no HDR was used. Capture One only, which imo results in a visible difference compared to what can be achieved (at least by me) with PS/LR.
