Thank you, Akira, Bob and Thomas.

We spent several hours moving slowly through the brash ice (loose floating pieces of ice) of the Lemaire Channel. There were many opportunities for photographers and our painter.

In late afternoon we went ashore to view some penguin rookeries.

Anthony  great work.  I am not even going to attempt picking favorites since varied images and am enjoying all.  Africa and Antarctica all in one place :).

Talk about calm waters, look at those reflections! This is still the bloody ocean, isn't it?

2808 is my favourite so far... The plane is so vast and the white swimming islands so flat .... wow

In the other pictures I like to see the cold rocks with ice around them. I felt Antarctica was all ice, now I see the rocks. I guess January is summertime there and the rocks cannot be seen in winter?

Thanks, all, for your kind comments.

Carl, it was indeed an extremely calm day.  The Lemaire Channel is well protected and often peaceful.

Frank, yes, we were there in the height of summer.  There would be a lot more snow in winter and spring.  The location is about 65º S, so quite a long way from the South Pole.
