Frank, having just been to my first grandchild's first birthday party, I may have to wait some time for the great grandchildren!

You will also have to wait for sea levels to rise by ~10 Meters and reach London City Beach...

I´m also excited to see more of the trip. I think both the opening shot -love it!- and the dawn over Brazil with phone already stand out.

  Please, continue!

And here are some not so cute penguin chicks.

The first is a Gentoo, the others are Adelies.

Wow again ! Seems you had to lie in the "muck" ? That chick was well bred, he "jettisoned" outside the nest ;D

Appreantly, the mother has taught the chick either too little about the manner or too much about the way to treat a guy...

Thank you, all, for your kind comments.

great stuff !!! how far away were you ?

We were not allowed closer than five meters to a penguin, but if a penguin chose to break that rule we were not required to retreat.  So the land based photos would have been typically at 5-10 meters.

Wow again ! Seems you had to lie in the "muck" ? That chick was well bred, he "jettisoned" outside the nest ;D

I was prepared to lie in the snow, but not in mud and penguin poop!  In some cases I used the tilting LCD screen for a low angle shot; in other cases the penguins were on higher ground.  Getting the boots and bag clean before being allowed into the boat's living quarters was a chore after each land trip.

good that you do not record smell

The delicate aroma of a penguin rookery is experienced long before you get close.  After a while you almost get used to it.

Appreantly, the mother has taught the chick either too little about the manner or too much about the way to treat a guy...

This is the standard way that penguins avoid contaminating their nests.  I do not know if it is learned or instinctive.  Penguin nests have white starburst around the perimeter - example here..  As they are often close together this can lead to unfortunate incidents.  This guy was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Thank you for your serious response to my joke!   :D  Seriously, the "manner" makes perfect sense, and it could be imprinted in their DNAs?
