The Z6 gives me more freedom....
« on: February 04, 2019, 01:25:44 »
I'm carrying it with me more often....
But I still don't like the missing green dot.
With the AF lenses the red square focus indicator becomes green. That's super. Why not with the manual focus lenses?
As someone told me, I've assigned my Fn1 button to zoom the viewfinder. It's not enough for me.
I used a Zeiss 18mm f/3.5 Distagon in this pic .

Nikon may very well make the focus square change color as well if enough people ask for it.

I'd recommend you send them a request and then see about getting others to follow suit.

Agreed, the so-called “green dot” should be visible regardless of which lens is used.
BTW, nice image!

What fun to setup "flying" umbrellas!

Was this for some special festival or celebration?

Aguinaldo, regardless of some inconvenience, your images always carry some joy to them.

Very nice colors, Aguinaldo.
I was able to handle a Z6 in a local store last week (their selection of high end bodies seems to have improved radically lately) and while the dot was white and not green, as I recall, the dot was present when I had my chipped 105mm f/2.5 AIS mounted. Perhaps the custom chip makes a difference or I am just confusing it with the time the native 50mm f/1.8 was mounted?

At first I got no focus confirmation at all and had to turn on the peaking highlights to have something.

The beloved green dot does not appear even with AF lenses, but the red square focus point becomes green when focus is achieved, which is great.

Maybe my camera is deffective or I did not find the right page to read in the manual.

Very strange - I checked the Z6/Z7 manual and there is no indication of a "green dot". As I recall it was somewhat to the left of the middle on the bottom row. But I was also handling a D500 and a D7500 at the same visit, so may be it is me that got confused. The D500 manual has the "green dot" all the way to the left.

See page 59 of the reference manual, regarding manual focus.

That appears to refer to the screen  on the back, not the viewfinder.

You are right.
Maybe I'm misguided by my habit of never looking at this display, except for looking at a picture imediately after it´s taken.

When I came home I attached an AF-S 24mm f/1.4 and confirmed that it also appears in the viewfinder, on the bottom far left.
And by the way, the dot is white, not green now.
So pissed that it does not appear for my manual lenses.

So I might not have confused it after all. Perhaps Birna would confirm the white dot presence with a chipped manual focus lens?

Confirmation (white) dot and square turning green with both afs and screwdriver type, even if it can not autofocus the later.
Non of the above but magnification and peaking with manual lenses, including those updated with cpu, sorry.

Is that Birna's custom CPUs or a Dandelian variant? (The custom CPUs have information about exit pupil position which could affect AF and metering calculations.)
