SCOTLAND 2019 - THE LOCATION
« on: November 12, 2018, 18:58:04 »
Our accommodation is secure so now we can relax a bit and look at where we will be. The general name for the area is Kintail; it is one of the most scenic in Scotland; Skye is only 30 minutes' drive away and there are lots of other attractions.

After this I hope you will hear no more from me until after the New Year, when I will come back with an information pack and instructions about how much needs to be paid, to whom, and by when.

But for now, here are some images of Kintail.

1. Eilan Donan Castle and Loch Duich
2. Loch Duich
3. The River Shiel near Shielfoot
4. The Cluanie Hotel, Glen Shiel
5. Loch Cluanie in early spring
6. The Kintail mountains in winter
7. Three of the "Five Sisters"
8 and 9. Loch Duich and Eilan Donan
10. The South Kintail mountains

A genuine old castle is the icing on the Scottish cake. Eagerly looking forward to this NG event.

Beautiful but sadly not genuine.
Eilean Donan Castle was rebuilt entirely less than 100 years ago on the site of an old, completely ruined castle.

I can do without castles, have plenty of them in my area. But I can hardly do without Scotland and NG meetups

Phantastic photos, Dave!!!!

To be exact: 1932, after being blown up by the English, around 1719  ;)

And BTW, beautiful landscapes and pictures  :)

It's still OK for the general ambience I'd guess, and honestly I got even more interested in the adjacent mudflats when seeing aerial photography from the site...

When packing for the trip, you might consider whether the reach of your new drone makes it more convenient than packing long lenses. I was really impressed with Simone's results with his drone, and I'm anxious to see what you post.  :)

I have a friend that drives a reproduction Shelby Cobra, but a reproduction castle, well, that's a whole 'nuther magnitude!  ;D

The morning side...

On a not too nice day in August this year.

I take Birna's view, most likely the same stones, esp. the quoins and arch segments.  The locals no doubt plundered the stones to build their own houses etc. but I am pretty sure the bulk of the castle will be from the original rubble, and very likely the same foundations.

Do they always fly the Scottish flag there? The scene could be interesting in false colour IR.

I was hoping for eelgrass instead of brown algae, but there is still hope in that water. Time will show.

There is an Australian billionaire, and sometime politician, that is planning on building a reproduction copy of the Titanic.

The lengths that some will go to.
