Yesterday I attended the memorial of an Uncle. He was 96 when he passed. He was married to my father's sister, Stella. Sports, especially baseball was a significant element in his life. He played ball into his 90's. When he was young he played semi-pro leagues and as he got older less competitive ball. Uncle Maury was on a team I organized of cousins and brothers. He was in his 60's and played first or pitched (so he didn't have to run far). Man, could he still hit. He loved hitting the ball. When the bat connected to the ball you could see fireworks flash across his eyes. He was very quiet, a man of little words. After the services, Mary Lou and I visited my cousin Patrick. He has been bed-bound since having a stroke two years ago. He can barely speak. Another sad state of affairs. Except for cousins on my mother's side, (of which Patrick is one of three), I am not close to my family. My fathers was a politician and as he moved up the political ladder we saw less of all my relatives. I had difficulty matching names to faces. I just sorta went my own way during my teens, leaving my little town to pursue other interests and brighter lights.
