  • I shoot what I like… to like what I shoot! :)
… unburden yourself of the creative limitations set by your clientele…

There are many resident birds at the marsh and of
a given number of species plus the transient — read
migratory — ones that will brighten up any day by
their presence.

There are the birders that will document each and e-
very specie and I was asked to shoot more wildlife
because of the "non-birder" approach to the pictures.

In short, it is not the birds but the light and the marsh
environment.
Light is free… capturing it is not!

I do not understand this… could you please explain?

Well you are flooding the Critique board with heaps of pictures, mostly birds (which is not bad per se) so any attention would have to fragment in spite of focusing on a few. And then you present a list that gives the impression of an accusal that your rights of getting the wanted attention are violated. I hope you understand better now, what i meant.

Anyone in an operation must justify all purchases to
oneself, the accountant, and the partners eventually,
healthier business practice.

There is not a general obligation to anyone. Its up on you to feel obliged to justifiy, i just wanted to help you to get rid of this burden. I for myself am purchasing what i like and enjoy without feeling guilty. Photography is something to enjoy. If you want to do business with photography, stop shooting birds immediately or your business will go bancrupt soon.

"Practice, practice, practice" is a thought I dislike so
much… it only makes one repeat the same mistakes
over and over again. I'll much prefer the "recognise,
understand, and execute" approach to learning… with
all my students.

I thought you want to learn, and as far as i understood the Critique board is for those who are open for learning. If you just prefer to teach thats the wrong place.

BTW i did not want to recommend brainless approaches, but when it comes to being fast with superteles there is a lot of movements (The right way of course - not training mistakes) and automatism to be trained that should work without much thoughts about it.

Healthy critique is basically a two-way street. Demanding attention for its own sake will never work.

To speak generally, I'm not seeing a "non-birder" approach in your images. For the most part your bird images are technically sound but I'm not finding the action, expression, light, and compositions particularly compelling.

That is not my purpose, Birna, but some interaction is.
If I had the wrong approach or chosen section etc, I will
learn about it. :)

Try posting to a theme or portfolio. They are often more conversational. Keeps all your stuff in one place too. So many different individual posts can seem like spam.
