Horseshoe Bend

Hi all.

This is Horseshoe Bend in Arizona. To get this shot you have to creep up to the edge and hold your camera out. It is not just 2000 feet straight down but the edge of the cliff is actually undercut.

Amazing shot, Jim!

I think I've seen this bend, but didn't know about the shooting position which seems to be totally formidable for me with acrophobia.   :o :o :o

A malady that may serve you well at the Grand Canyon. There's never a year that goes by without people falling to their death because they got too close to the edge. Never!

Thanks Akira.

It is challenging but one can put their camera on a monopod and crawl close enough to stick it out over the chasm while using a remote release.

A very good point.

Fortunately, at the Grand Canyon it is unnecessary photographically to get close to the edge.

That is an opinion not shared by all.

I live in Arizona, been to the Grand Canyon  more times than I can count over the years, and I have never seen the need to get close to the edge in oder to get an image. But, I see people acting recklessly in close proximity to the edge every time I visit! Admittedly, they do wind up with views that I'll never see.
