Winter at the Imperial Pond 2 (birds)
« on: September 16, 2018, 10:13:50 »
Imperial Pond (Serbian: Carska Bara - Serbian Cyrillic: Царска бара) is the largest individual bog in Serbia, located up north of the country. It was named after Attila, king of the Huns and now it forms the Special nature reserve. Altogether, there are some 500 plant species registered in the reserve as well as 24 different species of fish. Amphibians and reptiles are also abundant. Despite being a marshland there is a noticeable absence of mosquitos which local biologists attribute to the large number of frogs. Imperial Pond is the best known for its abundant bird life, which includes 240 bird species living in the area. Variety of mammals include otters, European ground squirrel, wildcats, bank vole and also wild hog, roe deer, red fox, European brown hare, muskrat, bats, hedgehog, mole, weasel, hamster, European polecat, golden jackal etc. I was photographing this area for a number of years. This is my attempt to present you the Reserve.

This is an amazing series of very rare moments of fairly familiar birds.  Excellent captures!

Excellent Zoran

Is the third one down a Bittern (Botaurus stellaris)?

Very cool series! Really several striking images first one really standing out as spectacular capture, being at the right place at the right time and patiently waiting for it to happen, congratulations!

Thank you very much! Those images mean a bit more to me because winter times are becoming rather weak over here.
