Fons, we don't see this practice in my part of the world.  Sometimes white paint on the bottom of the trunks.

Is it weather, impacts from vehicles, or vandalism that the trees are being protected from?

(BTW, thanks for sharing)

I notice the trees at the other side of the road are unprotected or not yet protected... If unprotected, perhaps it's protection from vehicles, given the other trees are further away from the road.

It means there will be work done in that street, so machines and traffic wont damage the trees, during the works.
Thank you Hugh and Robert.

Now that the Z series are on the way I took the a7iii/70-200 f4 out to see just how I could do at small fast birds  ;)
This is about 3/4 frame filler this morning.   did get a more fun image and will post on Show Birds theme  :)  I've not been shooting much lately  :(

A last memory of my recent foray into the Norwegian mountain range. Fresh snow fell during the night. Df, Voigtländer 58/1.4.

(the trip was hectic on several scales, including death experience and in-depth socialising with old fellow photographers, but now as a certified woman. Pardon me if I posted out of daily order, please).

I have been enjoying your documentation of the seasonal changes in Norway.
