Thanks all for your comments. It was quite an experience - they were gentle creatures, but no doubt they could do a bit of damage if they decided to headbutt you. The giraffes were hand fed by guests twice a day - they arrived at 5.30 each morning looking for handouts. The pellets were quite small, and the giraffes stored them in their cheeks until it was worthwhile chewing and swallowing. When they swallowed, it sounded like a long drainpipe being flushed.
