Collar for Old MF, 400ED/5.6Ais?
« on: August 24, 2018, 01:11:29 »
By reasons of fate, an old 400/ED/5.6/Ais landed in my lap. (Near perfect glass & finish, however no tripod collar.)

Bright sunlight on a bean bag the thing is pretty darn sharp. (The focus ring is too far front, like the 500.)
Can a collar be shared from another model, or do I have to wait, lurk or just make a crude concoction out of hard wood?

It's always something <chuckle.>

The 300/4.5 ED-IF AiS or the Micro-Nikkor 200/4 AI (not AiS) has the same collar.

I'm not sure about the AIS 200/4 micro, the foot at least is different - it goes straight down from the collar and does not extend forward or back like the others. The width or diameter of the collar might also be different. The collars of the AIS 300/4.5 IF-ED and 400/5.6 IF-ED are the same.

The collars for the AI versions (200 micro, 300 and 400) are narrower, and not a good fit for the AIS versions.

I have the Ai version of the 200 Micro, & it's collar diameter is slightly small. From pictures, the collar for the Ais/200 Micro look similar, or almost the same.

Thank you for the "Heads's Up," on what other models to look for. The lens was listed on "That Auction Site," with a buy it now or best offer. I offered what I considered an almost ridiculous low & the person accepted it.

The lens length and weight make it a boondoggle to handhold. I'm actually more used to holding something more like the old 80-400VR. I also still have old ideas & forget I can shoot at ISO 2000. I won't say which lens is sharper at 400mm.

Again, Thanks.
Edit: There is a collar for the Ais, 200 micro on the bay. The seller told me it's too difficult to measure the diameter. (I'm looking for 60mm on the lens center. There are 2 indents on each side.)

Roland.....Do you have all the Nikon part numbers, or does your lens collection contain the entire catalog?
