XQD Card Reader

Any suggestions on a reliable reader? I've been having problems transferring files when I hook the camera up to my computer directly.

I'm using either a Sony XQD Expresscard Adapter (QDA-EX1) or a Sony XQD card reader (model MRW-E80/USB3). No problems with either option.

I had a lot of trouble with card readers until I bought Lexar Professional Workflow, one for XQD, one for SD

Another option is the Sony MRW-E90; it has an SD card slot in addition to the XQD card slot and works well. Also USB-3.

I’m using a “Sony XQD USB Adapter for G Series” model QDA-SB1A. No problems; except that, from time to time, you have to reintroduce the card twice before it marks.

Was delivered free with my first D5.

I've been using a Sony XQD/SD Card Reader (MRW-E90/BC2). Works fine, and the SD reader is occasionally useful.

Since I got the D850 last December 2017, I had to get
a Thunderbolt 3 compatible XQD card reader for the new
iMac i7 5K. I opted for the Sony MRW-E90. This combina-
tion is extremely fast and yet I found only one thing that
is not to worry too much: the unit is getting very warm
even if it is just plugged in… without a card!!!

That is what I use with my Sony XQD cards.  I found the Lexar Workflow XQD modules are generation specific.  So I have one module for Gen 1 and another  for Gen 2.

Perhaps the circuitry is searching very hard for a card?

Another vote for the Sony MRW-E90 as the Micro-B to USB cable can be very easily replaced by an Micro-B to USB-C cable which makes it a future proof investment.

In my case I've ordered the Belkin Micro-B to USB-C cable at the Apple store:

Bought a Sony MRW-E80 XQD reader first. Mostly it works without problems but sometimes it needs repeated reconnections following trial and error to finally work. It is not foreseeable when this occurs and when it does not.

Added a MRW-E90 dual slot card reader (XQD and SD) because I found it convenient to have one reader for the two main card types (was using a Lexar USB 3.0 reader for CF and SD before). There is no problem with SD. Strangely it is working with all my Lexar XQD card except one (same type). There is never any Problem to read the new Sony 128GB XQD i bought for the D850.

Confirmed… but do you notice the warmup of the unit?

Ah! Thats easy... The reader is scouring the card for data, either way these computer thingamajigs find a way to stay busy and burn off your electric to make heat.  ::)  ;D
