Yesterday I fought a lost battle against bloodthirsty horseflies and the sinking into sticky ooze and mud on an inland lake. All these while I tried to take shots of our eastern "invader", Sparganium gramineum Gorsky. Eventually, I got my shots and even found time to make a little abstract study on the rippled reflections of a Sparganium inflorescence. The horseflies provided about 50+ bites and scratches and the mud swallowed my Crocs. All in all, a successful day in the field as I could cross off another species on my to-do list, and my D500 proved it had been wakened up from its zombie state of the last field trip.

Horseflies you mean the large greenish ones that silently sit on ye, causing itchy bumps.

Where the severe drought continues these white water lilies suggest otherwise.

Shame its almost impossible to look on the rearscreen in bright weather, but plenty dof with this lil' cam.

today I thought how stupid we are: With all roofs and walls in the city green of plants we could easily cool and moisten the local climate. Instead we live on a concrete heat island.

They are indeed fascinating. I could watch all day.
It is hard to capture the scale correctly. The best shots are like this with the 180mm 2.8 AI ED.
The steel bars in the footing being crushed are nearly 2" (50mm) in diameter.
