To me, the bigger question is why I'm seeing twelve eggs (some cracked) and a seemingly smashed "one" in a case for the set of a dozen...
Akira, exactly, you got it - the question I really do not have an answer to. All 12 were salvageable without any cracks after soaking the messy stuff in water to soften it up. So I lost nothing except quite some time spent on salvaging and clean up the mess (at least four of them were "glued" in place and needed quite some care to get free). Why none of them broke when a surplus egg there was no space for apparently must have been smashed into them during the producer's packaging stage is beyond me...
So to sum up, the answer is then of course that I did not break any eggs on my way home from the grocery store.
(But imagine I initially got pretty mad, partially on myself when I opened the package at home - I always check for cracked eggs before putting them in the shopping basket, but not this time).
