Thank you, I had not thought of that. I will expand my search.

I was worried that it might be one of the Toxicodendrons. My search for poison oak or poison ivy produced pictures that, to me, do not resemble the other pictures that were produced. Maybe I do not understand what to compare

The leaf shape is very distinctive, that's what I have been looking for, but some sort of location might help too.

I live in a small town inside San Antonio, Texas. A code compliance officer provided this visual guide. I will take and post another picture of the younger growth, but I think it matches the poison ivy (summer) illustration.

Your plant doesn't look like the poison ivy.

Pictures of inflorescences, flowers, or fruits are always beneficial for plant identification.

My best guess is a Cissus.

What I thought was clearly 3 separate leaves on the older growth looks like a single leaf on the new.

The foliage is trifoliate or deeply three-lobed thus Cissus seems a good candidate guess. We would need fertile shots with flowers or fruit to come any further, though.

If the vine is allowed to survive I will record flowers and fruit when available. I am not feeling quite as hostile toward it now. I was getting "Day of the Triffids" flashbacks a few hours ago.

If you look again at the photographs which the Texan botanist sent you, you will see that Poison Ivy has groups of three separate leaflets (each with their own petioles) but your plant has tri-lobed compound leaves born on a single leaf stalk.

Further identifiers of Poison Ivy are hairy vines with rootlets all along the vine; and glossy red leaflets in early Spring which turn matte-green as they mature — all of which are shown in those pictures.
