This month I visited New York and Washington DC and spent quite a lot of time viewing art. It reminded me that a large amount of art is narrative and communicative in nature, though sometimes it is quite wordless. It made me think about what I produce says, and if I’m actually communicating anything. I am far from having a coherent thought yet, but at least I’m starting.

So, here is an image from that trip.

Armando: deep sky with a normal camera at 300mm and such a result? I guess you must have compensated for the earth's rotation somehow? Did you use an orion tripod head or something? Amazing result.

Which camera did you use? Nikon 1?

My father shoots stuff like this at 3000mm with a video camera in black and white using rotating color filters. I sent him your pic to make him think about using a real camera like a D810a

a whole lot full of them as large as several football fields. Defunkt since 2004 and a pain to get rid of for building regulations. City owns it currently but they fear that the cost of clearing the site will be higher than the price they can charge for the lot. If they tear it down themselves they can charge a lot more for the lot to make it profitable. But then they are not sure if someone will buy it because the price might be to high for the amount of building you might be allowed to put there.

Me and my architect are thinking about a solution that is both ecological and sustainable and, third, makes sense economically too....

Frank, this was shot with the D800 and an external intervalometer to get exposures longer than 30", I use an equatorial mount, more details in this thread:

Do you use the autosave file or the active save of the TIFF file, and in the latter case with or without embedded edits?

In case you or anyone else have not discovered: Deep Sky Stacker is now open source. The development team has released version 4.1.0; for the first time it comes in a 64 bit version, which has some speed improvements, and the memory space does not have the 32 bit limit any longer. (Watch out for memory limits in your editing program if you use 2x or 3x drizzle at full size though). I have seen comments that it handles colors better too.

I got a screen calibration device, so now I was not guessing on the colors.
I save the deepsky adjusted image to the 32bit tif
