If I can be completely honest ... I agree it's great image overall ... save for one element.
The
absolute detail on the child's left hand is a distraction from the whole composition/mood. It almost makes the hand look like sandpaper (or an old man's hand), drawing the viewer's eye away from the composition and concentration of the student.
A softer or more delicate focus of the left extremity would draw the viewer into
the child, or the paper he's concentrating on, rather than making the viewer (or at least me) look at all the details of his closest hand (i.e., looking too closely at 'the tree') and forgetting to look at The Forest.
