Doesn't the rear element of the bellows micro 105 hit the front element of Ai(s) micro if the former is mounted onto the latter just with K3?  Don't you need, say, a 52mm filter with its glass removed to add some length to K3?

The front element of the AI 105/4 micro is recessed (see http://www.destoutz.ch/lens_105mm_f4_178997.html) so I expect it should be safe to use with the K3 and bellows 105 Nikkor, but take care just in case!

And yes the K is also missing, but it is essentially the same as the AI version so you could leave it out

As you already know, Bjørn only refers to K3 ring in his classic review.  Maybe I'm overly concerned, but you cannot be too careful.

No problem with that combination. There are space enough.
For a shorter shade, I use the shade from Voigländer 90mm/3.5. That makes it a lot easier to lighten the subject.

Roland and Asle, thank you for the confirmation.  I've had an Ais version just briefly and knew that the front element was recessed "a bit" but didn't realized that is actually recessed "enough".

I actually tried just by holding the lenses together by hand, an yes the shade is too long. Will see if something appropriate can be found.

Bent, if you get the whole K-ring set, you could use the K4 or K5 ring as a shorter shade.

The shade was handy. I was shooting bugs and it helped protect my lens from pollen and sap (and bugs)

The shade of the 90mm/3.5 is essential a 52-39mm step down ring, and a short tube with 39mm threads. That makes it a effectiv shade even if it is short. And the smaller diameter does also help not shading the subject.
