Author Topic: Nikkor 32mm F1.2 1 Series (Read 2453 times)

I am still learning and messing around with a V1 and a 10mm plus a 30-110 purchased as my first Digital camera this past spring. Most of the pictures I take are family photojournalistic. In essence, I am recording family and kids events. Just a part time hobby when I have time.

Is the 32 F1.2 a "specialty" lens for portraits? It is very expensive new but can be purchased for much less used. I like the faster aperture as the 30-110 is slow indoors. Most of the pictures I tend to take are in excess of 70mm so the 50mm was never on my list. For outdoors and sports, I use the 30-110. Indoors I use the 10mm but only because of the faster aperture. I tend to have to get closer than I would like.

Not sure I want to spend the dollars even discounted as I do not make a living taking photographs.

The 32/1.2 is a nice lens for portraits or suchlike applications in which one wants a potentially very smooth and unobtrusive background.

I use the 35/1.4 Nikkor via the FT- adapter, or the 3.5 cm f/1.8 Nikkor-W, for this purpose thus tried but did not purchase the 32/1.2 for my own photography.

I would really like to try the 32mm on my V1, a tiny body with lens that does beautiful portraits sound really nice,
but to spend that much money on a nikon 1 lens for a body that will probably fail eventually without a defined growth path ? hmm it feels to me like a loosing bet

A couple of days ago, I found a note "discontinued" on a price tag for Nikon1 J5 at a well regarded camera shop in Tokyo. Considering that there is no indication of J6 (even on Nikon Rumors website), the Nikon 1 is fading out, slowly but surely...

The J5 + 32mm is my favorite combo for candid street photography, most photos in the 2 albums linked below were made with the 32mm.
And I got mine for a strongly reduced price which is possible now.

Enjoyed your Nikon 1 AW1 shots just as much, a camera that makes sense in bad weather conditions.

Thanks Fons, indeed I could use the AW1 without worries during my hike in the Lake District in the UK and the 11-27.5mm AW is also a decent performer.

Thanks for all the replies. Great captures ArendV. I am going to take a chance on a 32mm. I can acquire one for 68 cents on the dollar with a year warranty. I am less concerned about the state of the 1 series which to this point looks bleak. I am no pro and do not make a living with my camera. I generally print small and would not likely take much more than 2-3,000 pictures per year. It will probably outlast my ability to learn and get really good so why not have good glass while on the journey. In addition, if the camera dies, I think there will be enough replacements on the used market for some time. One camera and three lenses is enough for me for now.

I have the 32 and use it with a V1 and a V3. It's a very well buildt lens but I see reports that it breaks easily. No problems sofar with mine.

This approach won't work, at least in the manner you try to accomplish it.

Upload images from your own computer using the Attachment functionality. No need to aim for supersize picture files as the forum software will scale down. A max. of 2000 pix on the long side is almost overkill already.
